Sha`b Abu NuhasSha'ab Abu Nuhâs reef

  • — I believe this is a better translation of the Arabic, it is used in the book Andrea Ghiotti, ed. (1996). Diving Guide to the Red Sea Wrecks. Luxor: A A Gaddis & Sons., which presumably gives the local English useage of the name. Posting this as a potentially controversial move to allow discussion. • That would be tautology: Arabic sha`b means "reef". Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:37, 7 September 2010 (UTC)][reply]
  • Re "Sha'ab", there is no second 'a' in the Arabic word: it is "shaعb". the second 'a' arose by Europeans misinterpreting the Arabic ayin sound. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:39, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
But why bother? The diacritic form follows neither the standard nor strict transliteration prescribed by WP:MOSAR and it does not appear to be the most common usage. Just put the articles at the non-diacritic from and reverse the redirect. — AjaxSmack 22:10, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
