Should Seymour Hicks filmography be merged here?
[edit]Discussion already in progress at Talk:Seymour Hicks filmography#Separate filmography. postdlf (talk) 19:21, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. I see no reason why not. --Michig (talk) 20:26, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
- No. Film made up only a small part of Hicks's career, so listing a long filmography in this article would unbalance the article and make the film portion of his career too prominent. It is better to have a narrative discussion of his most prominent film-related activities in this article, and the separate filmography article can have a more complete list with any notes that are of particular interest to people interested in Hicks's film career. I think that Cassianto made a good decision to separate the filmography from this article. -- Ssilvers (talk) 06:34, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- It's not really a long filmography. I don't think that merging would really unbalance the article.--Michig (talk) 07:06, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- I disagree. What happens if someone wanted to take the list to WP:FLC in the future? Some of the films are mentioned in the main article, so having this list there would be redundent and repetitive. -- CassiantoTalk 00:56, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- No. Two very good arguments above as to why not. Personally I would prefer the filmography to be widened into a listing of all professional appearances (stage and screen), which would certainly be a stand alone and heavyweight list in its own right. - SchroCat (talk) 03:22, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I think that would be a good idea, and one I would be happy to undertake in the not to distant future. -- CassiantoTalk 10:41, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
Memoirs
[edit]There are six volumes of memoirs listed here. Any consensus about their quality or significance? Valetude (talk) 23:28, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- I have been the main contributor to this article. I don't believe that any other Wikipedians have done substantial research on Hicks. When I was doing the research on Hicks and the Terrisses in 2006, I remember seeing various references to all of these memoirs in contemporary sources and more modern ones, but I don't think there's any source out there that compares them. He certainly wrote all of them, and if someone were going to write a book about him today, they would have to read and discuss all of them. If you are implying that we should delete one or more of them from the article, I oppose such an idea. -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:07, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
- No - just the opposite. I think it would add interest to feature and evaluate them in the main text. (I remember enjoying Night Lights.) Valetude (talk) 09:35, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
- I have not read them, but I have read some short excerpts from some of them. Hicks was an engaging writer, so if you went to the trouble of obtaining one or more of these, I think you would find it a breezy and fun read. I believe that "Me and My Missus" has a lot of good anecdotes about the couple, their friends and the theatre industry of the day. -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:36, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
