For the avoidance of doubt, the present contents of this article cannot be merged to the article Rape in English law because they are applicable to a number of offences under the 1956 Act that were not forms of rape. It will also be possible to add material relating to family law to this article (see eg Bromley's Family Law, 8th ed, p 877) which means that it can't be merged into the article on sexual offences either because it is not merely a subset of the criminal law.
