Kip Winger's supposed statement about being unaware that age seventeen being underage for stat. rape law purposes is misleading as originally describe in the article..

[edit]

Kip Winger states in the interview that he "didn't even know that 17 was underage" which is not the same as being unaware the sex with minors is illegal. First, the age of consent varies from country to country/state to state and in most places it's 16 and a in a few it's 17 including NY state where the band Winger is from. Thus, he may have thought the age was universally lower then 17 rather than not being aware of statutory rape laws at all. Second, since 17 is above the age of consent in most places, the song isn't about statutory rape or sex with a minor unless were dealing with the minority of states/countries were 18 is the OAC. Thus I felt the need to rewrite the statement to better reflect his actual words in the interview and make it clear the 17 is not universally "underage". - Notcharliechaplin (talk) 06:54, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
