Possible Additions
[edit]I think the article would get much better with info about Service sports, extracurricular activities, etc. Also info on notable teachers (with justification, such as awards, etc) would be good. Classicalclarinet 11:53, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Zach Steer, 1991 Service alum, finished third in the 2007 Iditarod sled dog race. Perhaps that merits mention under notable alumni.
- Two things worth mentioning: 1) Service was the top wrestling school in Alaska for many years; and 2) the school's swimming pool is considerably detached from the school itself. As for the latter, that was likely due to the fact that the school, when built, was far from a public water supply, not to mention possibly not within a fire service area. Like with many villages in rural Alaska, the pool also doubled as an emergency water source for fire suppression.
- Also, I removed the two redlinked names from the alumni. Not only the specific entries, but the contributions in general from those usernames, smack of promotional spam. Sports Talk Alaska is hardly as notable as its creator would like you to believe. It's only due to a lack of interest that that article hasn't been AFD'ed yet. Unless there's an otherwise good reason, in a list such as that, the entries should be of individuals with their own article.
- Most contributions thus far are weighted towards sports figures to the point where the uninitiated would think of Service strictly as a "jock school," even though there's a certain bit of truth to that. To give an example, what about Anna Fairclough? Granted, introducing a legislative resolution condemning "Rapist No. 1" doesn't quite measure up to the accomplishments of Mark Schlereth, but still...RadioKAOS (talk) 04:00, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
