Page moved

[edit]

Why the heck was the page moved? There's no evidence that the league's name has changed. Its official website still reads "Lega Basket Serie A" right at the top. --Axolotl Nr.733 (talk) 10:17, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

I suggest Lega Basket be merged with Lega Basket Serie A because of the following reasons:

-It can't establish notability on its own, few (if any) independent sources refer to the Lega Basket without also mentionning the Serie A, the only sources available are likely to be primary sources
-Its only function is to organise the Serie A and related competitions (the Italian Basketball Cup, Italian Basketball Supercup and All-Star Game, all of which only concern Serie A clubs), a section at the Lega Basket Serie A would easily suffice to describe its history and activities.

--ArmstrongJulian (talk) 10:35, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No it should not be merged. It's two completely separate things. One is a governing sport body, one is a league.Bluesangrel (talk) 01:20, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The vote above should be discarded. It's made out of spite after a personal disagreement between us (see here) and has no basis in wikipedia policy. --ArmstrongJulian (talk) 10:33, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The Lega Basket is the governing organizing body that controls the league. It's not the league itself. They are two completely separate and different entities. It would be like saying FIBA should no longer have its own article here, simply because FIBA organized the FIBA Basketball World Cup.Bluesangrel (talk) 22:45, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose: see here (Talk:Lega Basket#Merger proposal). --IM-yb (talk) 15:55, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

List of Champions

[edit]

(first two posts copied from @GiantSnowman: talk page)

Hi GS, can you review @Jaco IV:'s recent edits to this article please. He is changing the list of winners by year, so it is not reflecting what the source says. Also, the summation of winners is not provided at the source, so it is not right to list them, hence why I changed it to a 'citation needed'. He provides no edit summaries and hasn't responded to the message I posted for him. Thanks. Eldumpo (talk) 21:02, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GS.My edits are based on sources and I use the linkages of the official club's names as opposed the user Eldumpo who incorrectly insists on using linkages with club names that do not exist and he creates confusion. For example, there is no page in wikipedia about the lemma Borletti Milano. Borletti Milano was the current but not the official name of Pallacanestro Olimpia Milano but this basketball club had adopted many sponsorship names at its entire history and to avoid confusion the usual practice is to quote the likage the official name of the club and then to add the current name (look at the link ---> Borletti Milano or Simmenthal Milano or Simac Milano but not Borletti Milano or Simmenthal Milano or Simac Milano etc). Also the usual practice for the competitions that take place in two different years but in fact are one season, both are recorded. For example there is no 1990 Lega Basket Serie A Champion but 1989-90 or 2017 Lega Basket Serie A Champion but 2016-17 and so on, because the calendar was organized between these two years. To sum up, my edits are totally in line with the sources and above all with the official wikipedia edit practice and this can be seen by the contributions that I have started (they are recorded in my user page). The version of the champions section that I put in was entirely based on a source, whereas the changes you have made were not. There's nothing wrong with directly linking to the sponsored name, this reflects how the federation list them. There's no source indicating that Italian league season list of winners are shown over two calendar years but there is a source showing a single year, and that is how the article should read. The section should return to the version as per the sources.Eldumpo (talk) 08:43, 4 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Serie A (Basketball)Lega Basket Serie A – Per WP:OFFICIALNAME and WP:COMMONNAME. This page was moved without discussion a few weeks ago. The official name of the competition is "Lega Basket Serie A" (as you can see here) and its acronym (LBA) is the most used name for this competition by far (for example: 1, 2, 3, 4). Moreover, why should we use parenthesis to avoid disambiguation when there's a clear and recognizable official name? -- Nick.mon (talk) 10:33, 1 April 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 07:11, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Support: Lega Basket Serie A is the official name and most commonly used name, I don't know why this page was moved in the first place. Wholeheartedly agree with the requested move. Heeps of Wiki (talk) 13:58, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
