Possible death
[edit]Until there is some sort of official statement to link to (or indeed ANY statement at all), can people please refrain from updating the page. You can't declare a person dead until you have some sort of proof. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RocknRollJoel (talk • contribs) 09:50, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- He dead, bro. http://www.helium.com/items/1874171-muerte-de-sergio-vega-sergio-vega-el-shaka-murdered-after-performance —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.95.132.17 (talk) 20:55, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Reports on death are circular
[edit]Most of his death reports are based upon one another. I will see if I can find some good Spanish WP:RS citations. ----moreno oso (talk) 17:53, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- Someone warn off Elvis fan. he caused me data loss with in use template displayed. ----moreno oso (talk) 18:24, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- Next cites will be citations only with Google translate. These are sources I have used before and where the reports of death originated. Bear with me as I have to flip back and forth between multiple tabs. ----moreno oso (talk) 18:29, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- I apologised for this action (at the bottom of this page) the exact same minute that you wrote the above. No need to "warn off" anyone, it was a simple mistake. It's very easy to miss such "tags" when a user goes directly to a sub-section and doesn't see the top of the page. I actually find the term "Someone warn off..." quite threatening. Ironic, really, considering the article that is being discussed. ElvisFan1981 (talk) 18:34, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Needs more citations
[edit]It was tagged {{refimprove}}, tag removed, and then reverted, all today. I agree with Morenooso and 84user, the article needs more references (especially since the singer was very recently killed). Three editors agree; that would seem to be a reasonable consensus on references. Please engage here before removing tag, or better yet, find some additional citations, preferably in English, or translated, or vouched for by an experienced Spanish reading trusted editor, so they can be checked. BLP does not apply to those not living, by definition, but there has been discussion that the recently deceased should be afforded some level of those protections also. — Becksguy (talk) 17:56, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- Becksguy, I would agree that deceased people received BLP type protection for up to 14 days after their death and perhaps as long as 30 days for all the news reports to shake out. I do a lot of work on Spanish/Mexican articles. Unfortunately, finding good reliable sources cannot be found for living celebrities as the press likes to engage in teasers like Entertainment Tonight. In the case of recently deceased foreigners like Vega, anon IPs will flock to Wikipedia and edit at will. Please see how news of his death was reported in one of the above sections. There is in many cases almost no respect.
- There is much spectulated about Vega. Supposedly he did announce prior death that he wasn't dead. Whether that was due to death threats or leaks of alleged "hits" is unknown. He did incorporate what is known as narcocorriente (Spanish: drug running) lyrics. Whether that was because he like the thrill of doing that style of music, was in their company or pockets - is alleged in several reports. Chances are he fell out of favor or ticked off a rival cartel. Hope this helps, I watched a special last night on him via Univision's Aqui y Ahora. This was a popular singer who got ran off the road, his cadillac bullet-ridden in bushes and taken out in a body bag. At least he was in the bag, Sergio Gómez was shown in full blown rigor mortis on a stretcher sans the bag. ----moreno oso (talk) 19:20, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- I've done some recent work on Mexican articles like this one. Please see:
- I've found a very neutral NPR report, a BBC report and two Mexican newspapers I have used before and found to be reliably sourced. ----moreno oso (talk) 18:01, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hi. I didn't notice the "Do not edit" tag at the top of the page when I added the recent citations to the article. Sorry if this has caused any inconvenience to anyone. ElvisFan1981 (talk) 18:24, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
As Becksguy correctly states, the policy Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons does not apply to the deceased, it does include the section Wikipedia:BLP#Deceased which is still relevant, quoted below:
Deceased
This policy does not apply to edits about the deceased, but material about the deceased may have implications for their living relatives and friends, particularly in the case of the recently deceased, so anything questionable should be removed promptly. Any individual born less than 115 years ago is covered by this policy unless a reliable source has confirmed their death. Persons that are over 115 years old are presumed deceased unless listed at oldest people.
Furthermore, just because someone has died does not allow the verifiability and general encyclopedia standards to be relaxed. -84user (talk) 19:13, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Recent death tag
[edit]There is no reason for rapid removal of the tag. The murder took place five days ago and not all the reports are in. As per my previous edit summary and what is common, seven days would be an appropriate time to remove the tag. ----moreno oso (talk) 02:51, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
- The murder did NOT take place "five days ago", it occurred on 26 June. UTC is now 4 July, which is in fact eight days after the death. Tag is now in breach of Template:recent death. WWGB (talk) 02:58, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
- Concur. While the editting has died down with recent citations and removal of other maintenance tags, my count of days were off. Seven is stated as as the max. ----moreno oso (talk) 03:06, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
