Tag about referencing
[edit]Someone added a tag called {{original synthesis|date=April 2015}}. I find this tag a bit confusing. Perhaps it is better to simply add the tag "citation needed" to those statements that are lacking a citation? I wrote that paragraph and I am still searching for a good source, it is a bit common knowledge amongst experts but of course a citation would be much better.EvM-Susana (talk) 19:44, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
Create new page about fecal sludge?
[edit]Septage does not equal fecal sludge, it is one example for fecal sludge. Therefore, I think ideally we should create a new page that is called "fecal sludge". Or perhaps re-name this page to "fecal sludge" and then have septage as just one example of fecal sludge. What do people think about this suggestion? EvM-Susana (talk) 19:44, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
- I still think this needs to be done. We could perhaps also move some content from night soil and focus the night soil article more on historical aspects only.EvMsmile (talk) 01:54, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
- I have now created a new article on fecal sludge management to address this. EvMsmile (talk) 14:12, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
- I do like these conversations where you can talk to yourself over several months, nobody interrupts and you get to do what you first thought of! Perhaps this is a subject that is not at the top of most Wikipedia editors' watch list ? For what it is worth, I would have preferred it to be faecal sludge management but I guess the quaint version of English used in the old colonies will take over one day. - yes, true, and therefore a special thanks to you, User:Velella for replying to me here! :-) I have used the American spelling because after some deliberations we decided for the WikiProject Sanitation to do everything in American English (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(Sanitation)#We_use_American_English_for_this_Wiki_project). What do you think about my suggestion of merging the article of septage into fecal sludge management (see below). EvMsmile (talk) 02:07, 9 August 2016 (UTC)
- I should have been clearer in my earlier message - I have no problems with this merge or any other sensible merges to keep relevant content together provided that appropriate re-directs are left behind . With regard to the English variants of spelling, I have no problem with the proposals in the link above for new articles within the project, but WP:ENGVAR requires that existing articles retain their original dialect of English even when encompassed within a larger project. Merging articles is not a valid reason for changing the variant of English, especially if both merged articles are in one dialect and the rest of the project is in another. I suspect that in this case both are in American English so the issue probably doesn't arise but just a word of caution for the future that project good intentions don't override Wikipedia wide policy.
