Janko, Sepp (1982) Weg und ende der deutschen Volksgruppe in Jugoslawien. Graz: Leopold Stocker. Done to replace the „Reden und Aufsaetze” which tells the real story. A self-serving document that does not even mention the Jews and Serbs that were killed or sent to Serbia from the Banat.
He begins with a metaphoric explanation of what “Volk” means for him and says nothing about race, but instead focuses on culture, that arose over longstanding centuries and a common language. This of course is an apologia for the Nazi racist views that he espoused as the leader of the Nazi Quisling state of the Banat from 1941 to 1944, when he disappeared into Germany, and then Italy and Argentina as Jose Petri. He puffs up in self pride that “Volk” and Nation” are often used in the same way. He contrasts this with the French who mean any ethnic group who are citizens in France, with the term French nation. For him, the French “Volk” are all those in Canada and elsewhere as well.
He defends the Erneuerers as having the best intentions for the Schwowe (The name Shwova had for themselves), but only mentions that they were cast out from the KB without any explanation why, except there was a “storm” in the Habag-Haus, the seat of the KB in Novi Sad. Janko says he wanted to found new unions to take up the work. He explains their connection with the ultra-fascist “Zbor” as merely a way to obtain legal standing in Jugoslavia. He says this resulted in several of the Erneuerers leaving the movement, but without explaining why. Apparently on May 18 1939 there was a meeting of the leadership of the KB, the Erneuerers, and the German VDA and VoMi, and they settled on Janko as the new leader. The two Erneuerers (probably Awender and ??) wanted someone else, but Altgayer (Slavonia and KWVD) and Fritz Metzger (Batschka) were with him.
He mentions nothing about the Jews and Serbs and their takeover of property by the Shwova. He and Awender took this money for themselves. What a useless, self-serving book. Imersion (talk) 13:28, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
