Semper Paratus Bugle Theme

I first heard a recording of Semper Paratus in 1976 on the double LP album put out by the U.S. Bicentennial Commission, "Broad Stripes and Bright Stars". I was utterly stunned by how magnificent and stirring the arrangement was. Although it was a purely instrumental piece, the bridge after the first chorus sounded like a bugle call to battle stations. The piccolos trill behind the brass with a sense of urgency that still brings tears to my eyes, evoking thoughts of those who gave their lives in service to this nation. The brass theme rises to a resounding repeat of the chorus, and brings to mind the sentiments of one John Philip Sousa, who remarked that "A good march should make a man with a wooden leg want to step out smartly!" Such is Semper Paratus. My question, though, is this: Is the brass bridge in the song actually a Coast Guard battle stations bugle call from the 19th century? I have been unable to find any information about it for years now, and I would deeply appreciate it if anyone has any further information.72.130.218.63 06:38, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
