In the 2nd paragraph where it says 'Selwyn is relatively less wealthy than some of the other traditional college'. 'relatively less wealthy' I think sounds a bit clumsy. The fact that it is followed up with 'than some of the other traditional college' means that it is relative by definition. Therefore I will remove the word relatively, unless anyone objects? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.219.116.67 (talk) 11:07, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion to merge the Hermes page with this one

[edit]

This is a terrible suggestion as the Hermes club page is a small article with very little sourcing, and also omits description of a large part of the Hermes club activities. Membership is by invitation and initiation only so there is no reason for the club to be included in Selwyn's article. Also a large part of the club's culture, getting together once a week for a massive piss up, is not endorsed by the college as an administrative or academic institution, so again should not be included in selwyn's page.

Massive piss up is unsubstantiated slander. They are too busy in exam term —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.111.129.234 (talk) 20:32, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Selwyn College, Cambridge
Old Court at Selwyn College. This constituent college of the University of Cambridge in England was founded by the Selwyn Memorial Committee in memory of George Selwyn (1809–1878). The college consists of three main courts built of brick and stone (Old Court, Cripps Court, and Ann's Court), as well as several ancillary buildings. Selwyn College was ranked 16th out of 30 in an assessment of college wealth conducted by the student newspaper Varsity in November 2006, and in 2009 it was ranked 3rd out of the 29 colleges which admit undergraduate students on the Tompkins Table.Photograph: David Iliff

Chapel at Selwyn College, Cambridge
The interior of the chapel at Selwyn College, Cambridge, looking towards the altar. Selwyn College was established in 1882 with the mission of making "provision for those who intend to serve as missionaries overseas and... educate the sons of clergymen". Membership was initially limited to baptised Christians, and attendance at the chapel – which was built in 1895 – was mandatory until 1935.
