Wouldn't "Revival" be a better translation?

[edit]

Hi. I think 'Revivial' in this case would be a better translation of 'Odrodzenie'. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 15:59, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello - I'm happy to see you discussing the moves.
I think it's a very good idea. Generally, translations should reflect the most common translation (per WP:COMMONAME), regardless of how 'correct' it may be (reminds me of a certain discussion on Law and Justice...).
Anyway, this party is so unknown outside of Polish language sources that it begs the question if any reliable English sources even attempted to translate the name. I found no references to "Self-Defence Rebirth" in any reliable sources. "Self-Defence Revival", on the other hand... I found just one. I guess this might be the best we're gonna get.
Just a note, moves can be disruptive, because if we move the page to Self-Defence Revival, all the other articles that refer to the party, be it Self-Defence of the Republic of Poland, Self-Defence Social Movement, Patriotic Self-Defence, List of political parties in Poland and Template:Polish political parties will still refer to it as "Self-Defence Rebirth". Ideally there should be a bot to take care of that, but we ain't got one. So it's important to rename it everywhere, lest it leads to confusing situation where the main article uses a different translation than all other ones.
