Some proposed changes to the article's 'introduction'
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
- Information to be added or removed: Change "Selecta has 250 offices in 18 countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Liechenstein, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom" - to "The Selecta Group has offices in 16 countries: Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, UK, Norway, Italy, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Finland (under the brand name Pelican Rouge)."
- Explanation of issue: The number of offices Selecta has across the world has changed since this page was last updated. In 2017, Selecta sold its operations in Estonia, Latvia and Lithiuania to BaltCap Private Equity Fund II. In February 2018 it sold 'Selecta Finland', but it continues to operate there under the Pelican Rouge brand (which Selecta acquired in 2017).

This page is quite out of date and there are a number of changes I would like to propose to make it a more accurate depiction of the business today. I am fairly new to Wikipedia - do I need to request to edit each of these separately?
EmilyRH31 (talk) 09:42, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Emily! Thank you for your question. You are free to make as many or as little edit requests as you like here on the talk page. Just be sure that any text you wish to add or subtract from the article is placed here verbatim, along with your reasoning for why the changes ought to be made. References should also be provided. The article currently does not have a citation style chosen. I would suggest using Citation Style 1 (also known as CS1), instead of the bare URL links you've provided here. If you're using the default WikiText editor, there is a cite function in the toolbar which enables you to easily format the URLs as CS1. As for your current request, it would be best if the information on the countries served is placed within an infobox. The Infobox company template would work well here, as it contains the areas_served parameter where, as a simple alternative,
|areas_served=Europe
may be used. Please let me know if you'd like an infobox added and I can do this for you. Also, please be sure to make all the necessary disclosures on your own talk page as well as this talk page. When ready to proceed, kindly change the{{request edit}}
template's answer parameter to read from|ans=yes
to|ans=no
. Thank you! - Regards, Spintendo 14:13, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Spintendo: Hi Spintendo! Thank you for your feedback and advice - though I am a little unclear on what I need to do next to make this change happen. I like your suggestion to use the info box to list the countries, and the citation style you suggested. To actually make the change what do I need to do now? Repeat the 'request edit' template I used before, but change how I have listed the 'information to be changed' and the references section? Also, to your point about disclosures, I thought I did have a disclosure on my own page but do let me know if this is not correct. Thank you. EmilyRH31 (talk) 10:53, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
- I've added the infobox along with the article's first reference as WP:CS1, so that is the style which can be used. Please feel free to make edit requests for as many or as little changes as you like. The most efficient way is to place one new
{{request edit}}
template at the bottom of the page under a new level 2 heading and to list all of the changes under that one template.

- The list of countries I've omitted in place of
|locations served=Europe
in the infobox, but it you'd like to address each country you may do so in the milestones section along with references for when each country came into the fold. Also, the personal narrative of the company being founded and how the machines came to be is nice, but should be referenced by sources preferably from outside of the company.
- The list of countries I've omitted in place of
- There are other minor grammatical changes which need to be made. The claims regarding revenue are perfectly fine coming from the company as the source. Lastly, the company's headquarters are not clearly stated—if you could propose to have that included for the lead section that would be helpful. Regards, Spintendo 12:23, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Spintendo: Thank you for all your help, advise and for putting the infobox in! I agree with you completely on the changes you've proposed and am making my way through them - it's taking me some time to learn how all the templates work!EmilyRH31 (talk) 09:19, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
Request edit
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello, I would like to update the introductory copy to better reflect the company today.
Information to be added: Selecta Group is a European unattended self-service retailer, providing coffee and convenience food solutions in the workplace and public spaces. It is headquartered in Cham, Switzerland. The company has over 9,000 employees, serving 10 million consumers every day through 460,000 point-of-sales. In FY18, Selecta generated revenues of €1,518.4 million.[1]
Explanation of issue: The figures currently referenced in the article's introduction are from quite a few years ago, so I have suggested these are updated - I have referenced the company's most recent financial presentation in support of this. I have also suggested that Selecta is described as an "unattended self-service retailer", rather than a "vending services operator". Selecta’s offering has evolved beyond Vending machines in recent years. Whilst it still operates a large number of public, semi-public and private vending machines, a large part of the business is now in self-service coffee machines and self-service food on the go choices in workplaces (but these aren't vending machines, they are more like 24/7 self-service supermarkets offering healthy meals, snacks and drinks, which are housed within a workplace office). I believe unattended self-service retailer more accurately reflects and encompasses what the business does. Going forwards, maybe it would make sense to add in a section explaining the different channels Selecta operates through?
References supporting change: I have added these in above, but please let me know if I need to include the links here too or have not done it correctly. To see more about the Micro Markets, check out Selecta's website here: https://www.selecta.co.uk/micromarkets/
Some proposed changes to the financial information in the introduction
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Information to be added or removed:
- Remove: In 2018, the company had approximately 9,700 employees and generated approximately CHF 1,545 million in revenue.
- Add: As of September 2019, the company has approximately 10,000 employees and in the last 12 months (LTM) has generated €1.6 billion in revenue[2]
Explanation of issue: These are the most up to date financial figures Selecta has released publically. Also the existing line is incorrect, in 2018 it had revenues of €1,545m, not CHF 1,545m - however we now have numbers for 2019, as listed on the corporate fact sheet. LTM is a financial term which means "last twelve months", and is often used by companies when reporting their financial results. We also have more up to date figures for employee numbers, again as shown in the factsheet. Both of these would also need to be updated in the factbox - how do I request an edit to this? Would it be possible to use a Selecta logo here instead of the existing picture?
References supporting change: I have cited Selecta Group's corporate factsheet, which is available to download from the website. Please let me know if you need anything else.

- Some proposed changes to the milestone section
Hi there - thank you for reviewing my requested edit. I am still learning the best way to use these templates, so please do let me know if you need any more information or I've done something wrong!
Information to be added:
- 1957 - Selecta founded in Switzerland
- 1985 - Selecta joins the Valora Group, in Switzerland
- 1997 - Selecta floats on the Swiss Stock Exchange at CHF 515 million
- 2001 - Compass Group acquires Selecta for CHF 1.35 billion[3]
- 2005 - Selecta introduces Balanced Options (a range of healthy eating options) into the vending market
- 2007 - Selecta is purchased by Allianz Capital Partners at CHF 1.80 billion[4]
- 2009 - Selecta introduces its own coffee brand, miofino[5]
- 2012 – Selecta partners with Starbucks to launch Starbucks Office Coffee[6]
- 2015 - Selecta is purchased by KKR[7]
- 2017 - Selecta acquires Pelican Rouge (September), another leading operator with operations in eight European countries. As part of the acquisition, Selecta also acquired Pelican Rouge's roasting facility in the Netherlands, which it still runs[8][9]
- 2018 - Selecta acquires Argenta[10] (February) and Express Vending[11] in the UK (August)
Explanation of issue: The milestone section of Selecta's wikipedia page has not been updated since 2015, and there are some key milestone's missing. The text I've suggested below includes what is already there, and some new milestones (so if the community is happy with the changes it can be copied verbatim, I hope this is right!). I've included references as part of this, as I wasn't sure how else to do it.
References supporting change: I have added these in above, but please let me know if I need to include the links here too or have not done it correctly. EmilyRH31 (talk) 09:19, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

- The milestone section was updated. Please note that references should receive author and date information in all instances where that information is obtainable from the source. In the references you've provided for this request those missing elements were added for you.
- The lead section was mostly updated.
- Certain elements were not added:
- The lead section's financials and employee counts were unchanged, but remain unreferenced.
-
1997 - Selecta floats on the Swiss Stock Exchange at CHF 515 million
It is not known what is meant by the word "floats" -
2005 - Selecta introduces Balanced Options (a range of healthy eating options) into the vending market
This was unreferenced. A press release from the company would suffice. -
2009 - Selecta introduces its own coffee brand, miofino
The reference to this item was not acceptable. A press release from the company would suffice.
Regards, Spintendo 10:49, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Spintendo: Thank you very much! For the milestones I will see if I can find some better references. Please can I ask why the financials were unchanged? Do I need to provide a better reference? Thanks again. EmilyRH31 (talk) 11:13, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- The reference URL that you've listed for the financials is a company page which displays various links to documents. The financial information is ostensibly located in one of these documents. Thus, the actual document (which invariably will be a pdf, thus the page number of the pdf) will need to be provided as the reference URL, rather than the main link page URL. Regards, Spintendo 13:47, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Spintendo: Thank you for the explanation, I will request this edit again once we have a clearer reference that we can use. Thanks again for all your help EmilyRH31 (talk) 14:10, 23 July 2019 (UTC)

Some proposed changes to the milestone section
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Information to be added or removed:
- 1997 - Selecta floats on the Swiss Stock Exchange at CHF 515 million[1]
Explanation of issue: This was originally removed because it was unclear what was meant by 'floats', which I'd like to clarify. It is the term used when a company sells a percentage of its business in the form of shares, which are subsequently traded, via a stock exchange. It is the correct term so I'm unsure how else to word this, but you can read more about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_float
References supporting change: I've included a link to a Wall Street Journal article from the time that references the float. As it happened so long ago Selecta does not have a press release about this on their current website, but I hope this article will act as proof that it happened - it was an important milestone in the company's history.

Some proposed changes to the introduction
[edit]Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. Please see the reply message below for additional information about this request. |
Hello, I would like to update some of the introductory copy, to give a fuller picture of Selecta's size and offering, as well as the products and services it sells.
Information to be added:
The company has over 9,000 employees, serving 10 million consumers every day through over 460,000 point-of-sales. In FY18, Selecta generated revenues of €1,518.4 million.[1]
Selecta serves consumers through two main channels, in the Workplace and On-the-Go in public (railway stations, petrol stations, shopping centres etc) and semi-public areas (e.g. hospitals). Its products span from coffee and hot drinks to impulse buys such as snacks, fresh food and healthy options such as fruit baskets delivered to offices. It's Workplace and On-the-Go services include vending machines, automated coffee machines and MicroMarkets, a fully digitally-managed retail solution that acts as a self-serve convenience store in the workplace.[2] Selecta also offers a full suite of services and products to customers (such as employers, hospitals etc), including the sale of coffee and other ingredients, and machine and third-party technical services.[3]
Explanation of issue:
The current sentence with details about number of employees is about five years out of date. It would be more accurate if the last sentence in the introductory para could be replaced with the first sentence above. It would also be great to change these in the factbox, but I am afraid I am unsure how to request this officially (any guidance will be much appreciated). I have also suggested added a short paragraph which outlines the channels Selecta sells through, and its products and services, as it is much more than a vending machine business.
References supporting change:
I have provided a link to Selecta's corporate factsheet, which lists the company's most up to date figures (financial and operational), the channels through which it operates, and the products and services it offers. I have also added a reference to Selecta's website page about MicroMarkets for more detail.
Many thanks for taking the time to review. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Some proposed changes - title and pictures
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi there,
I wondered if you would consider changing the name of the article to Selecta Group - or, if it still needs a descriptor, Selecta Group (unattended self service retailer)?
I would also like to add some more up-to-date images to the page but cannot work out how to do this, and wondered if anyone would be able to advise me? Apologies in advance for my ignorance! Thank you!
Information to be added or removed: Change article title to "Selecta Group"
Explanation of issue: Selecta’s offering has evolved beyond vending machines in recent years, so I wonder if this descriptor in the title is a little misleading? Whilst it still operates a large number of public, semi-public and private vending machines, a large part of the business is now in self-service coffee machines and self-service food on the go choices in workplaces (but these aren't vending machines, they are more like 24/7 self-service supermarkets offering healthy meals, snacks and drinks, which are housed within a workplace office). If it does still need a descriptor to differentiate it from other "Selecta' articles, then 'unattended self service retailer' may be more appropriate?
References supporting change: As shown on the company's corporate factsheet (available here: https://www.selecta.com/investors/our-business/senior-management/factsheet/) Selecta describes itself as an unnattended self service food and drink provider.
Thank you! EmilyRH31 (talk) 10:13, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

[edit]- As it may be a matter of discussion over whether the title of vending machines applies to what the company produces or is misleading, your request to change it should be submitted using the
{{requested move}}
template specifically as a controversial move request process requiring discussion amongst the wider community. A controversial requested move typically takes about 7 days to complete. More information about this process may be found at Requested moves. - With regards to adding images, these must first be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons before they can be added to the article. Please note that uploads to Commons must comply with the following:
- Commons:Licensing: the file must be freely licensed, or public domain in both the source country and the United States;
- Commons:Photographs of identifiable people: for photographs taken in a so-called private place, any identifiable people in them must consent to publication; for some countries and situations this is also true for photographs taken in public (see Commons:Country specific consent requirements).
- Files not meeting these criteria may be deleted. If in doubt, please ask for help, if possible before uploading.

LTM is a financial term which means "last twelve months", and is often used by companies when reporting their financial results.
