Segodnya or Sevodnya
[edit]Even though in Russian Сегодня is pronounced as Segodnya, I believe that we should keep the former name, Segodnya instead of the current Sevodnya, which was added not a while ago. If in Russian it is written with a g, then why not transliterate it with a g? Or are we doing this so non-Russian speaking users may pronounce it correctly..? Any thoughts? —dima/s-ko/ 22:10, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think you meant to say, "in Russian Сегодня is pronounced as Sevodnya...". Seeing that the article is currently called Segodnya, I would infer that it has suffered yet another move without discussion here. The purpose of transliteration is to preserve pronunciation, not an individual letter of the alphabet. Unless this newspaper calls itself Segodnya in English, it is absolutely wrong for us to do so. Spelling
[edit]it looks like someone has already discussed this - Would it be worth moving this page over to Sevodnya? the name is spelled like "segodnya" in russian but pronounced like "sevodnya", and not everyone can read ipa so i think this should be moved over Yvzcvtp (talk) 23:48, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
