Note to reviewer about Malayalam Movie/TV Industry
Kerala is a state in India with a population of 35 million people who speak the language, Malayalam. Malayalam has a lively and well-developed media and film industry. The Malayalam movie industry is nearly one hundred years old, and is the fourth largest in India’s nearly $3 billion movie market -- which has the largest annual film output in the world. Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the industry is somewhat subdued with many feature films released directly to the streaming market rather than to theaters.
“Top Singer” is a wildly popular daily prime time TV show which is known to almost everyone in Kerala. Flowers (TV channel), which carried the show, has world-wide distribution, which means the show is known wherever Malayalam-speaking people live – a diaspora some six million strong in over 20 countries. As the First Place winner of the 2Year long first season of “Top Singer”, Seethalakshmi is known to most people who speak Malayalam. She is very likely to be successful in the Kerala music industry. This article is an effort to document her rise as well as to provide a point of reference to those who would like to know more about her now.
Notability falls under [Crieria] Has won first, second or third place in a major music competition.
Flowers TV's competing channels are owned by the two major Newspapers in Kerala - who would rather not cover TopSinger due to obvious competitive reasons
