Opening comment
[edit]I suggest that the explorer is significantly better known than the actor, and so should be the primary meaning. One indication is that the explorer has 17 articles in other Wikipedias, the actor only has 5, the explorer also has the significantly longer article. The explorer's article should of course have a hatnote pointing to the actor. PatGallacher (talk) 21:37, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Page not Moved Nothing the arguments below and Google searches on "Sebastian Cabot" explorer -wikipedia vs "Sebastian Cabot" actor -wikipedia I get 15800 for actor and 9970 for explorer - therefore no WP:PRIMARYUSAGE Ronhjones (Talk) 00:37, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Sebastian Cabot (explorer) → Sebastian Cabot — This request was made earlier but seems to have fallen by the wayside without a decision. The explorer is significantly better known than the actor. PatGallacher (talk) 17:12, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
- Support the explorer is famous. The actor simply isn't. Flamarande (talk) 14:08, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- Strong oppose. The actor got 9,000 views while the explorer had 3,000. While page views are not definitive, the number show that there may well be no WP:PRIMARYUSAGE so the dab page should remain. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:23, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- Support: I believe this is a case where the seemingly equal or even higher prominence of the actor may be an artifact of Wikipedia's systemic contemporary-popular-culture bias, whereas in the real world out there the historical figure is undoubtedly of much, much higher notability. - But the question for the primary name space is WP:PRIMARYUSAGE and not notability. Vegaswikian (talk) 02:10, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Richard Ameryk
[edit]His connection to "America" is discussed in his article, Richard Amerike.
I am familiar with a book in that article's bibilography, The Columbus Myth: Did Men of Bristol Reach America before Columbus? by Ian Wilson (1974).
That book does argue that America was named for Ameryk, not Amerigo Vespucci.

Birth, Nationality, and the United Kingdom
[edit]The article states that Sebastian was born in the United Kingdom, but the United Kingdom wasn't formed until centuries later. It also says that he was born in the Venetian Republic. Was he born in England or in Italy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.145.10.139 (talk) 19:56, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
