Pronunciation
[edit]Does he prefer the authentically British quick pronunciation, or the South American style Co-ah-tes favoured by most British commentators?--94.9.172.76 (talk) 10:19, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

The football club that the wiki article says is the one Sebastian Coates plays for links through to the wrong club - it should be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_Nacional_de_Football in Uruguay not the one linked to, which is in Paraguay. The Uruguay club link shows Coates as playing for them 178.103.49.69 (talk) 18:09, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
--- The BBC article says absolutely nothing about Liverpool signing him for 12m. It just calls him a 12m rated defender. All reports are that Liverpool have offered much less. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.196.60.153 (talk) 01:36, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Rather Glaring Error
[edit]It says in the article that in 2007 Coates was 18. That's IMPOSSIBLE, as he was born in 1990. He was 16 when he was signed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.46.165.57 (talk) 14:20, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- Nice spot -- that whole section was a copyvio of one of the sources, which I don't think was reliable anyway... However, from what I can gather from the original source, working off a translation of the Spanish, it seems he signed in 2009 age 18, not 2007 age 16:
- "In 2007, he was part of the Uruguayan Under-17 and early 2009, was one of the best players of the Uruguayan national team U-20 in the South American Championship in Venezuela [...] That same year, 18 years old, joined the main campus of first division of the National Football Club at the request of Coach: Gerardo Pelusso."
- Google translation of the page (emphasis mine)
- It shifts rather quickly from 2007 to 2009, but it seems that the contract signing happened in 2009. If you have another source which states that he signed in 2007 at 16, please paste it here and I'll take a look. Thanks! Buttons to Push Buttons (talk | contribs) 14:52, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

During August 2011, Coates attracted interest from clubs across Europe. English clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool FC showed interest in the player. Manchester Citys interest cooled after the signing on Savic. It was Liverpool FC who submitted the first offer for £12,000,000 rated Coates service. Nacionals President spoke of Liverpools firm interest stating that Liverpool FC had offered a good bid and looked likely that Coates would be on the move. The fee is reported to be in the region of £8,000,000 for the 6ft 6ins 20 year old Uraguay International.

Coates also won the Uruguayan league 2010/2011 playing for Nacional, called Primera División Uruguaya 2010-11.
Indivually he was named:

Stats (goals) are incorrect
[edit]Although I don't have the official source or number, Coates scored at least 4 goals for Nacional which I remember. See for example: http://www.apurogol.net/2010/03/banfield-0-nacional-2-video-goles-de-coates-y-godoy-copa-libertadores-2010-grupo-6.html in the 2010 Copa Libertadores, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVPcH0LsAl4 in the 2008-2009 Uruguay finals. I'll try to get updated numbers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matiash (talk • contribs) 21:58, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

I would like to accurately edit the page of Sebastian Coates following his £7million move to Liverpool F.C.
86.147.63.23 (talk) 23:50, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
I have already edited, accurately, and with honest intentions, numerous other Wikipedia pages regarding association footballers, any mistakes I have made previously are regarding players who have not yet finalized moves. This transfer however, has already been completed.

Coates' first goal for Uruguay NT
[edit]Article says: "On 10 June 2012 Coates netted his first goal for Uruguay with a header against Peru in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification 4–2 win."
That is not true. An Uruguayan who scored was Sebastian Eguren. He might have been mistaken by the author for Sebastian Coates. Check out the goals scored section in the match report on FIFA official website.
- Removed, thanks for clarifying that and providing the link, very helpful. danno_uk 00:22, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
