[edit]I'm curious why my edits were reverted. Seavey island is certainly a "disputed territory" between Maine and New Hampshire and has been for quite a while (http://gencourt.state.nh.us/legislation/2006/hjr0001.html for a recent account). My phrasing was, I believe, NPoV. Rjbouchard — Preceding undated comment added 18:30, 4 September 2007
Dispute
[edit]Hugh Manatee has expanded this article enough that a paragraph on the NH–ME border dispute would not be excessive.

Official name is Seavey Island, not Seavey's Island
[edit]This is my first attempt at editing pages and discussing edits in Talk - please be kind...
The official name of this island, as cited in the USGS Geographical Names Information System (http://geonames.usgs.gov/domestic/) is "Seavey Island" (http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic/f?p=132:3:7815036710050961::NO::P3_FID,P3_TITLE:575142%2CSeavey%20Island) It is not "a modern, lazy corruption of the name" as indicated in the revision history. The USGS cites the following for the use of "Seavey":
U.S. Geological Survey. Geographic Names Phase I data compilation (1976-1981). 31-Dec-1981. Primarily from U.S. Geological Survey 1:24,000-scale topographic maps (or 1:25K, Puerto Rico 1:20K) and from U.S. Board on Geographic Names files. In some instances, from 1:62,500 scale or 1:250,000 scale maps.
Therefore, except for historical reference, all uses of "Seavey's" should be changed to "Seavey". I have not made these edits as I'd like to know if there is any disagreement with this.
As an aside, is there a find/replace feature when editing to make it easier to replace Seavey's with Seavey?

- I fully agree with you. It's possible to simply move the article to "Seavey Island", but because a valued editor of the article is known to oppose it, I recommend formally requesting that the page be moved. See WP:Requested moves#Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. --Ken Gallager (talk) 12:34, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
