Deletion discussion

[edit]

This page was put up for deletion on the following grounds:

  • "We don't need individual pages for Pro Football Hall of Famers of each NFL franchise. This information should be listed in each NFL Franchise article or in a list of all Pro Football Hall of Famers."

I have several issues with this. First, such an article is certainly within the scope of Wikipedia's policies of both what it is and is not. Having reviewed those policies, I can't find any that the article doesn't conform to. If this is incorrect, please let me know.

Second, the reason given isn't explained. Why don't we need individual pages for Pro Football Hall of Famers of each NFL franchise? With nothing more than the unsupported statement, there's nothing to discuss, save the trivial answer of "I disagree".

Third, the rule is not a good one on the face of it. It could very well be that each individual team page grows to a size that breaking it up this way is exactly what we need.

Fourth, if a change to the page is needed, clearly it would be deleted, but rather merged with the team page.

In conclusion, I reject outright the assertation that "We don't need individual pages for Pro Football Hall of Famers of each NFL franchise". It may very well be true that this particular page is not needed at this particular time, but that's a different argument entirely. If we decide to do something of that nature, merging is the answer, not deletion. --Don Sowell 17:01, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the content on the page is valid and should be merged, rather than deleted. However, the content on this page is already presented on the Seattle Seahawks page: Seattle Seahawks#Pro Football Hall of Famers. Furthermore, I don't see any way this page could be expanded with additional informaton that would not be more appropriate on the Seattle Seahawks page, the Pro Football Hall of Fame page, or the pages for each of the players (Moon, Largent, etc). Also, if this page is to exist in its own right, don't we need analagous pages for each of the other 29 NFL franchises? The existence of this page without its 29 brothers breaks a parallelism that is cruicial to any database's organization and usabality.

Now, should we have individual pages for HOFers of each NFL team? You are quite right that individual team pages could grow to a size that necessitates subdivision. But I don't see why a simple list of each team's HOFers should not remain on the main team page.

Perhaps, if the scope of this page were expanded to include a larger array of honors by Seahawks players, and the Seahawks page itself was becoming too unweildy, I could understand a need for inclusion. See New York Yankees award winners and league leaders; the scope of this page is such that is it not merely a subset of one pan-MLB list.

As it is, this article is merely a fragment of two others (Seattle Seahawks and Pro Football Hall of Fame). Jweiss11 17:38, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
