  • Hi Fingoal and Gaois... Welcome to DYK! Article is new enough and long enough. You are QPQ-exempt (did not need to review another article).
  • My main comment about the hook is that, without clicking a link, I have no idea this is a Gaelic games article! It's quite the clunker in formulation as well. I'd like to suggest a reword:
  • ALT0a: ... that the coin used by Gaelic football referee Sean Hurson bears his initials and was presented to him by one of his umpires just before he died?
  • The article doesn't have any textual problems per se, though I do encourage you to consolidate many of the short one-sentence paragraphs—especially that Club section—and add more variety to the start of your sentences.
  • I'd say you're too late for the 24th. We are dealing with a historic backlog at DYK, and I have been leading efforts to drive it down by reviewing nominations. Seeing the number of approved nominations in the 150–160 range is not normal! In the future, you can generally submit pages six weeks before the special occasion date.
If the phrasing of ALT0a (with the same hook fact itself, which checks out in the article) is acceptable to you, I will pass this nomination. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 01:22, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How about the following:
It's much the same but retains the two links. Gaois (talk) 01:41, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Truncated to make it more snappy. Schwede66 02:47, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that is acceptable. Gaois (talk) 03:07, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Providing a tick (ALT0b/0c) and reiterating my copy recommendations to Gaois about choppy one-sentence paragraphs. The 24th is feasible, as Prep 1 is unfilled, but we have so many nominations that have hung around for far longer that I dunno if it's right. I had noted similar concerns (odd phrasing, some very long and some very short sentences, etc) raised above. While many of these are addressed in the article, I personally wonder whether ALT0b and ALT0c are misleading. In what sense is the coin "presented" to the captains? Do we mean "shown" to them? (The coin is clearly not given to them to keep. "Presented" in the sense of a medal or something. And captains do not touch or use the coins directly in a coin toss. They are shown it, yes. But is that clear from the word "presented"?) Personally it feels like we're trying to mention captains in the hook - in a way that adds an awkwardness and lack of clarity that is possibly best avoided. ALT0a doesn't have this issue. You're right. ALT0a doesn't have this issue. Better to try that one. Gaois (talk) 21:39, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sammi Brie: As the original reviewer, can you determine which ALTs are approved? Z1720 (talk) 14:17, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I know I'm not the reviewer but I think all three were approved by Sammy Brie. Alt0a passed if acceptable to me (it is). Alt0b/0c also passed, then another editor raised a concern over the wording, so swap back to Alt0a.
ALT0a: ... that the coin used by Gaelic football referee Sean Hurson bears his initials and was presented to him by one of his umpires just before he died?
If this summary is correct then Sammi Brie can just say a quick "yes" or a tick or whatever is easiest if it saves her some time to deal with that backlog she mentioned... :) Gaois (talk) 15:11, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Z1720 and Gaois: This is correct. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 18:19, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Based on the above review, ALT0a is approved by Sammi Brie. Please revert if this is incorrect. Z1720 (talk) 18:22, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
