An Airport?

[edit]

Is it believed that this is an Airport, with runways and a tower? I don't think so. I Think the template and link to List of Airports should be removed. Eranb 05:20, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No Airbase!

[edit]

this might be a launching site for missiles but not an airbase. i agree with Eranb to remove this template and links. Sundar1 (talk) 14:12, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Names: hardly any source

[edit]

The Aviation Week article is now accessible only by subscription. It was introduced by רדיומן in July 2017, disappeared, and was reintroduced by Huldra in Dec 2019 attached to much more info, although it's not clear if Huldra did indeed access it. Initially (2017), all it was quoted for was this:

"Sdot Micha (also known as Sdot HaElla; in Hebrew: שדות האלה)."

All the other material, with the exception of the 2017 episode, seems to be unsourced. An article accessible only by subscription to a specialised aviation magazine is also no good to anyone who wants to do more research. In the end, we only have the two sources for the 2017 story, one of which is a clear non-RS, a blog by a fuming over-the-top activist. Arminden (talk) 00:15, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lol, User:Arminden; have you ever heard about archive.org? The aviationweek-article is available there, Huldra (talk) 20:48, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Huldra: hi.

I've always come across archive.org copies when they were linked on Wiki by some bot. Which probably happens when an editor adds a "dead link" or "subscription" tag to the citation. Here it hasn't been done until now.

I don't know how to find the file, if it exists, on archive.org by myself. I'm not sure most users can, or most editors for that matter.

I don't know if everything that has been set behind a paywall can be retroactively accessed on Archive. I would think not, but I could be wrong.

So LOL or not, the problem is here to stay until a possible Archive copy is properly linked. That's precisely why we have those tags and bots, created by knowledgeable coders. Cheers, Arminden (talk) 08:55, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Arminden: It wasn't behind a paywall in 2019, and you cannot retroactively put it behind a paywall there. Everything can be read on archive, eg here, cheers, Huldra (talk) 20:42, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Huldra: Thank you. None of this goes without saying. So I'll add the archive.org URL to the source, unless you've done it already. (I still don't know how to find an Archive URL, googling for "title" + web.archive.org doesn't bring any result). Cheers, Arminden (talk) 21:00, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Arminden: Go to https://archive.org; at the top of the page you will see a "search-space" which says "enter url or keyword", enter: http://aviationweek.com/awin/more-meets-eye-mideast-face ........and you get the "saved" pages, Huldra (talk) 21:10, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Huldra: Great to know, I wrote it down now, thank you! Arminden (talk) 21:20, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
