Are jewel bugs located in California also?
[edit]I don't know if this is correct place to ask this but, At my old junior high-school I use to see lots of insects that looked like jewel bugs and beetles... i also found some of the carcass's but we were not allowed to take them on the bus so, I had no way to bring them home, so I am just wondering if they are extinct in California, or do people just not search for them there, because they are not so rare to me as i see a lot of so called "rare" insects... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.122.113.13 (talk) 18:18, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- They are not rare at all, some are so common they are considered pests. And yes some species are found in California as well. They are found pretty much worldwide really. Do note that not all jewel bugs are colorful. As far as I can tell, the most common jewel bugs in california are drab ones.
- Jewel bugs found in California include: Stethaulax, Homaemus parvulus, Phimodera binotata, and Acantholomidea porosa
- The bugs you saw might be true beetles (like jewel beetles or scarabs), or some other pentatomoid. A common pest there is the colorful bagrada bug (Bagrada hilaris), which belongs to the family Pentatomidae, closely related to jewel bugs.-- Obsidi♠n Soul 19:28, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
