[edit]- Also known as "scrummaging machine" (formal)
- Text from wiktionary, removed text in bold (contentious in italic): "a padded, weighty device against which a pack of rugby football forwards can practice scrummaging, and rucking. There are wide variations in design and complexity, from padded frames, to steam roller type machines. It is used by players of both rugby league and rugby union. "
- Interesting fact: In the early 1990s, after the breakup of the USSR, Georgian rugby enthusiasts, lacking money turned old Soviet tractors into bespoke scrum machines. Needs reference, but info on various websites about this.
- There are also one man scrum machines, see here
I am trying to think of basic design variations in scrum machines. Train spotting I know, but it would be good to have a comprehensive article on this. Many seem to work on the steam roller model, some are padded frames (as I wrote in the wiktionary entry) and some are sleds. Examples of design variants here (unusual - but good for the coach), here (padded frame), here (yet another variant), another frame variant, yet another, a space probe, ouch, as used by England? etc Then of course, you could just put it on the back of a pick up truck here--MacRusgail (talk) 15:54, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
