Never much cared for the Scream franchise, really. Ah well.
- Is it reasonably well written?
- A. Prose quality:
- Some of the sentences in the lead are very obtuse. Anything more than a few clauses could probably be broken down into multiple sentences. Examples include "The film's combination of elements of comedy and "whodunit" mystery with the violence of the slasher genre, while satirizing the cliché of the horror genre popularized in films such as Halloween and Friday the 13th, was unique at the time of its release" and "Based partly on the real-life case of the Gainesville Ripper, Scream was written by Williamson, and was inspired by his passion for horror films, especially Halloween (1978)". Each of these could be two sentences at least; and the second one already contains information mentioned in the first sentence of the lead - either remove the "written by Williamson" bit from the opening sentence or from the quoted one.
You also have the film's title bolded in the caption for the logo, change this to italics.
You've got "...it was exactly what the Weinstein brothers of the fledgling Dimension Films – then a part of Miramax – was looking for". The subject of this clause is plural (the Weinstein brothers), so use "were looking for" instead.
You've used "entitled" several times when you should be using "titled".
You're using spaced en dashes ("word – word") as parentheticals, when you should be using unspaced em dashes ("word—word")
Overall the prose style is good, though. It's just easier to find fault when there's a large article like this to comb over.

- B. MoS compliance for lead, layout, words to watch, fiction, and lists:
- MOS is fine, no problems there.
- A. Prose quality:
- Is it factually accurate and verifiable?
- A. References to sources:
- B. Citation of reliable sources where necessary:
- C. No original research:
- Citations are used when needed and are reliable. However, the date format is completely inconsistent. Although the preference for US-based articles such as this would be for Month Day, Year format, it ultimately doesn't matter which format is used as long as one is used consistently.
- A. References to sources:
- Is it broad in its coverage?
- A. Major aspects:
- B. Focused:
- Broad enough while still retaining focus.
- A. Major aspects:
- Is it neutral?
- Fair representation without bias:
- Article seems neutral and unbiased.
- Fair representation without bias:
- Is it stable?
- No edit wars, etc:
- There's been a few reverts in the history but none seem contentious. No edit warring or vandalism.
- No edit wars, etc:
- Does it contain images to illustrate the topic?
- A. Images are copyright tagged, and non-free images have fair use rationales:
- File:Scream-cast-at-fountain.jpg seems unnecessary, especially given it's non-free and its rationale is a little thin. File:Scream logo.jpg should mention that it's not the uploader's "own work" but a version they've made based on uncopyright-able plain text. Everything else seems fine enough to me.
- B. Images are provided where possible and appropriate, with suitable captions:
- Images are used appropriately.
- A. Images are copyright tagged, and non-free images have fair use rationales:
- Overall:
- Pass or Fail:
- I'm putting this article on hold for now. There are issues which need to be addressed for several of the criteria, though this should not take too much effort. The article has plenty of potential for a future FA, but these issues will need dealt with before it can pass this GAN.
- Pass or Fail:
- Thanks for taking this on GrappleX, sorry you don't like the film, I can understand 2 and 3 but if you haven't watched it, Scream is really good. Anyway I have attempted to meet your requirements, I have changed the sentences in the lead so they are hopefully read better, I changed the dashes, replaced entitled with titled and a few other changes you asked for. I have attempted to improve the Fair Use rationale for File:Scream-cast-at-fountain.jpg as I believe it to be important to the section or article but if you still feel it inappropriate I am happy to remove it. Updated information on the logo rendering by another user.
- The changes made are just what was needed, this is now perfect and will pass. Well done! GRAPPLE X 19:29, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
