Denmark and Wales

[edit]

Excellent page and long awaited on Wikipedia, well done.

The match against the "Danish League" or "Danish Combination", was actually against Staevnet, essentially a select XI of the Copenhagen FA... see the second post here onward: http://www.scottishleague.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2996&hilit=staevnet&start=15 and also "Scotland Programme Guide" by Andy Mitchell, which actually pictures the programme from the game on its cover.

In the records table at the end it's also incorrect to link the Welsh League XI to the Welsh Premier League - it was only formed in the 1990s. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.56.111.92 (talk) 17:45, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The Welsh League XI link redirects to Welsh Football League, which was in existence at the time (Cardiff / Swansea reserves played in it then). There isn't really an accurate link because (as the text explains) the Welsh team was mainly made up of Cardiff / Swansea first team (ie "English" league) players. • What you're saying about the Danish team makes more sense given the historic context. I don't think football was professional in Denmark until c. 1970. The Denmark League XI, a feeder team to the national team, wasn't invented until the early 1980s. Staevnet played in the Fairs Cup in the late 1950s, so a match against the SFL would have been preparation for that. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 19:49, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
