No real accurate numbers?

According to BBC's Explore the Scots made up the bulk of British and Irish immigration to Argentina. So how is it possible that there is only 100,000 Argentine of descent yet 500,000 of Irish, somewhere somebody is wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.10.64.120 (talk) 23:27, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe it's because it's more fashionable to be Irish. There are millions of Welsh Americans in the USA, yet few of them identify that way - on the other hand, everyone seems to be trying to be an Irish American.
Note also that since Scots and Irish are very close, and share a number of surnames, many Irish Argentines are perhaps of Scottish descent instead.
