[edit]So, the NPOV warning. I decided to put it there after reading various bits in the article that were claimed by Scott or his supporters, but are stated as fact in the article, whereas they are unconfirmed. I take issue with the following:
- "The initial detainment followed refusal to be interviewed by ASIO days earlier."
- Actually, that's true, anf has benn widely reported in the media.
- Yeah, but it can be misinterpreted. It implicitly suggests that the refusal to be interviewed may have caused his deportation, however ASIO would probably deny that, and no one knows for sure. It's better to be clear and state the two things separately. Scott was asked for an interview, and refused. Scott was detained, days later. - James Foster 13:12, 23 September 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, that's true, anf has benn widely reported in the media.
- "The deportation also allows the government to test the powers of the Attorney-General under the National Security Information Act."
- "He has not broken any laws while in Australia, nor involved in violent activity, nor advocated the use of violence."
- He hasn't been charged with committing a crime.
- That's right, and I have no problems with that being said in the article. Whether or not you have been charged with breaking a law is different to whether or not you have broken a law. Scott has claimed that he did not break any laws, but no one knows this as a fact. Wikipedia articles must be based on facts. It is okay to say he has claimed he did not break any laws, since that is a fact. - James Foster 13:12, 23 September 2005 (UTC)
- He hasn't been charged with committing a crime.
I intend to fix up these things (reword them to make it clear that they are claims), within a few days. Feel free to beat me to it. - James Foster 13:39, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
- Fair enough, although there have been no claims to the contrary. —Pengo 14:16, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
- I've cleaned up the above, and tried not to be too weasly about it, but feel free to make further changes as you see fit. —Pengo 14:34, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
- Looks great. Thanks for that. - James Foster 15:51, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
I'm curious as to why the "Unnamed ASIO sources have claimed these included violent techniques such as throwing marbles under police horces to evade arrest" edit was reverted? It does seem to be true that some sources have claimed this. I'm not sure that labelling them "violent techniques" in general is neutral, but I think the article should mention that it has been claimed one technique Scott was teaching included throwing marbles underneath police horses to evade arrest. It would then be fair to note that Scott would probably deny this claim. - James Foster 23:07, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
The Sourcewatch article Australia Revokes Scott Parkin's Visa includes an extensive reference list of media sources relating to Parkin's removal from Australia in September 2005, and for this reason alone is worthy of an external link from the wikipedia article. It is impractical to simply paste these into the wikipedia article as the reference list would be longer than the article itself. Dirtbiscuit 03:23, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
