PROD Comment
[edit]The Avett Brothers were featured in NPR story based on their performance at SXSW. That alone should meet WP:RS and WP:N, but a basic gSearch on "The Avett Brothers" yields 480k hits. It appears the original Prod was for WP:MUSIC (note to editor - prods take longer to go through, so you have plenty of time to work on article. Instead of removing the PROD tag, consider posting your concerns/plans here on the talk page.).
Scott Avett himself seems notable enough for inclusion on his own as an artist, see this, this, hell, here's the raw search on "Scott Avett" exhibit (exhibit used in an attempt to qualify the musician from the artist).
Besides, Okkervil River says these guys are good, so that's all I need :)

[edit]Overall, I think this a well presented article and seems to be well written. However, the sentence "The held the spot for three weeks" that was written in the first paragraph doesn't quite make sense due to incorrect spelling or a left out word. You could consider revising this so it looks a little more professional. This article is also very engaging due to the fact that you open up talking about his band, as well as the band's accomplishments. This hooks the reader from the start and reinforces Scott Avetts stardom and importance to the music industry. In addition to this, it might be a good idea to go into more detail about the band itself. I think that alot of people know Scott Avett as a musician rather than an artist. For example, I didnt even know that he was an artist until I read your page. The Avett Brothers are also a very popular band, so the majority of people that search Scott Avett would most likely be searching for information on the band rather than his artwork. Here is a website that provides band-related information such as tours, past shows, contact information, and even a biography page: www.theavettbrothers.com/. In terms of the references that you used, I thought you did a very good job of approaching the subject from many different angles. Not only did you go into detail about the subject himself, but you provided information on the band and his artwork. For the information that focuses solely on Scott Avett, I thought that it was comprehensive and detailed. You talked about his family backgound, education, and inspirations/mentors. Although I commend you for using various references, one would have to question the accuracy and bias of them. For example, the website scottavett.com might contain some bias considering he has a large part in dictating the information that is revealed on the website. Another example of this is www.ecu.edu. Considering that ECU is his alma mater, the information displayed on this website might be skewed in his advantage. Lastly, I think that you did a good job in presenting this in a manner that upholds Wikipedia's guidelines. I realize that there are alot of instructions that are listed in the style guidelines, but some of the things that I noticed were your headings, article title, and reference links. One of the things that you might want to add would be a few pictures. This aspect really makes the article look more professional and appealing. --Skinfan8 (talk) 17:59, 24 March 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skinfan8 (talk • contribs) 17:53, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
This article is definitely very informative and does a good job of organizing the data into sections. By covering many aspects of Avett's career and personal life, I was left with a broad sense of Avett as a whole. I was not aware that Avett was an artist, which was an interesting addition to the article. However, I feel as though the article needs to focus more on Avett and the Avett Brothers music (this would probably aid in Wikipedia deeming this article/Scott Avett significant). Maybe you could add a section on "Scott and the Avett Brothers" that covers more specific aspects of the band, like their recent success, concerts, albums, and popular singles. I believe that Wikipedia even allows you to insert sound bites onto pages, so depending on the copyrights of the Avett Brothers music you could include a sample of one of their songs. A picture of Scott would also strengthen the article. I would also be interested to know, how and why they decided to start the band and Scott's role in that. Resources you could pursue for more band related information might be: [1]The Daily Tar Heel or [2]Uncharted. Overall you have a lot of resources cited in your article, but the validity could be stronger if you relied less on the Avett's personal websites, which may be bias. You did a good job of giving us a good, general biography of Scott Avett. You were able to give us good information on how he ended up becoming a member of the Avett Brothers Band. You talk about his early life and college career which gives reader of the artcile why Scott Avett ended up becoming a musician. Another positive aspect is the part about his art. Of course everyone knows him as a member of his musical band but not many would know of his pretty serious art career. I feel that readers interested in his life would really appreciate that aspect. With that being said I feel like you perhaps need to focus on his music carrer also. There is an article about his band but you could discuss Scott's individual input into his band. I'm sure that is an aspect you are working anyway but I jut wanted to let you know that definitely would make the article stronger. The sources are strong and although you use his personal website you do not use it an a biased way which is good. Overall, this is very good and informative, like I already said just adding another paragraph about his music would be great and I think you have a great article that people would want to read. This page about Scott Avett is on track and you have a good page although I do suggest images of Scott Avett, his band, or his artwork, are needed because this is a page dedicated to Scott himself I would suggest having pictures of his artwork or give external links to where his work can be seen if they do exists online. I really like the box on the right with quick information about Scott Avett you should definitively add a picture above this. Although I realize that his band does have a page of its own I suggest that you create another heading and mention his band and give a quick summary (paragraph length) for the reader to get a read through of his band and provide a link to the bands main article on Wikipedia. This should be really helpful in not just understanding Scott but his band more for those who don’t want to click elsewhere. This should create another heading on your page and help you with having more material on your page. I also found some grammatical errors that you could easily fix when you proof read and do your final revisions to the article. Not really a big problem. You have a lot of good information and resources about Scott Avett and his band this only makes your article stronger as it makes sure that all of the information is credible and accurate. When I was reading the Artwork section I just felt as if you were listing one event and one thing after another for it got really redundant. Change it up and make it more interesting to read.
