Proposed changes
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Could we make the following changes to the sections below?
Introductory paragraph
1. Please update the first sentence of the introductory paragraph to from “focused on cell signaling and regulation” to “focused on mechanisms of signal transduction.”
2. Add “online” to the second sentence of the introductory paragraph, so the sentence reads “It is published online weekly…”
3. Update the third sentence of the introductory paragraph to read “The Editor is John F. Foley, the Chief Scientific Advisor is Michael B. Yaffe…”
4. Remove the “e” from Holden Thorp’s last name as displayed at the end of the introductory paragraph.
Scope
5. Update the last sentence of the Scope section to read “Besides full-length articles, the journal also publishes reviews, focus articles, and editor-written highlights of select research papers."
Abstracting and indexing
6. Update the impact factor information underneath the list of indexers to read: “…the journal has a 2021 impact factor of 9.517.”
a. Update the corresponding reference to the 2021 Journal Citation report: (https://jcr.clarivate.com/jcr-jp/journal-profile?journal=SCI%20SIGNAL&year=2021&fromPage=%2Fjcr%2Fhome)
References
7. Reference 3 has an outdated link, and should be replaced with https://mjl.clarivate.com/home , as Clarivate acquired TR’s intellectual property division a few years ago.
Sidebar
8. Please update “Edited by” in the right hand sidebar to read “John F. Foley” instead of Michael B. Yaffe.

- All look good, except the first one. A general audience reader might not know what "signal transduction" means; I had to Google it too :) The lead sentence should not oversimplify the subject matter, but it should be accessible for most readers (see WP:JARGON). You can go ahead and implement the other suggestions, exactly as they are written here. Actualcpscm (talk) 14:22, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- Excellent, thank you.
- With regard to that first edit, would the following be more appropriate?
- “Science Signaling is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that is focused on understanding how cells communicate with each other and their environment.”
- If so, I will make all of the edits at once. Mphelan123 (talk) 17:45, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
- I would suggest"...journal focused on cell communication" or perhaps "...journal focused on mechanisms of cell communication". Feel free to implement either option together with your other suggestions. I recommend that you mention your COI in the edit summary, together with the revision ID of this approval. Actualcpscm (talk) 09:06, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
- Excellent, thank you - the latter option is perfect. I will make the changes as discussed above, and mention my COI/revision ID in the edit summary. Mphelan123 (talk) 14:13, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

Additional Proposed Changes
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello!
We have some additional edit requests, listed below. Please let me know if I can provide rationale, additional information, etc.!
Bolded text indicates additions/edits to text.
---
Summary
- Request: Could the third sentence be edited to read: “The journal is part of the Science Family of Journals, of which Holden Thorp is the Editor-in-Chief.[1]”?
- Reason: For context -The Science journals have an overall Editor in Chief (Holden Thorp), but each journal is then managed by individual Editors, who we prefer not to list.
- Link: https://www.science.org/content/page/leadership-and-management#HoldenThorp
- Request: Could we move the last sentence regarding the Impact Factor from the end of the “Abstracting and Indexing” section to the end of the “Summary” section?
- Reason: We are aiming to be consistent with other Science journal Wikipedia pages.
- Request: Additionally, please update the sentence with Signaling’s 2022 Impact Factor and updated reference if needed: “According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2022 impact factor of 7.3.[2]"
- Reason: The number currently there is outdated.
- Link:https://jcr.clarivate.com/jcr-jp/journal-profile?journal=SCI%20SIGNAL&year=2022&fromPage=%2Fjcr%2Fhome
Scope
- Request: Would it be possible to update the use of “covers” to “publishes” in the “Scope” section? Update the first sentence to read “The journal publishes research on…”. and update the second sentence to read “in addition, the journal publishes…
- Reason: "Covers" may imply that the journal reports on other research, while "publishes" is more specific in that the journal publishes original content.
- Request: Could the last sentence be updated to: “In addition to full-length research articles, the journal publishes reviews, focus articles, editor-written highlights of select research papers, and editorials.[3]”
- Reason: This more accurately reflects the content types Signaling publishes.
- Link: https://www.science.org/content/page/science-signaling-mission-and-scope
History
- Request: Please un-italicize STKE.
- Reason: It was not italicized per the journal's style rules.
- Request: Add comma between “name” and “and volume” in the second sentence: “On January 8,2008, it obtained its current name, and volume numbering…”
See Also
- Request: Could a “See Also” section be added, with the following links?
AAAS Publications (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Association_for_the_Advancement_of_Science#Publications)
Science (Journal) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_(journal))
List of Scientific Journals (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_scientific_journals)
- Reason: We are trying to standardize this across journal pages.
External Links
- Request: Could an “External Links” section be added, with a link to the journal’s official website? Official Website (https://www.science.org/journal/signaling)
- Reason: We are trying to standardize this across journal pages.
Right Rail
- Request: Would it be possible to update the cover image used in the right rail? We can provide a higher-resolution image, if so.
- Request: Please update “Edited by” to Holden Thorp.
- Reason: We are aiming to make this consistent across the journal pages.
- Request: Please update the Impact Factor to 7.3 (2022).
- Reason: The current number is outdated.
- Request: Please add Signaling’s CODEN: SSCICM
- Reason: We are trying to present the same set of information for each journal.
- Request: Under Links, please add an Online Access link: https://www.science.org/toc/signaling/current
- Reason: We are trying to present the same set of information for each journal.

[edit]- Your edit request could not be reviewed because the provided references are not formatted correctly.[a] The citation style predominantly used by the Science Signaling article is Citation Style 1 (CS1). The citation style used in the edit request consists of bare URL's.[b] Any requested edit of yours which may be implemented will need to resemble the current style already in use in the article – in this case, CS1. (See WP:CITEVAR.) In the extended section below titled Citation style, I have illustrated two examples: one showing how the edit request was submitted, and another showing how requests should be submitted in the future:
Citation style
|
---|
In the example above there are three URL's provided with the claim statements, but these URL's have not been placed using Citation Style 1, which is the style predominantly used by the Science Signaling article. Using this style, the WikiFormatted text should resemble the following:
In the example above the references have been formatted according to Citation Style 1, which shows the author, the source's name, date, etc., all information which is lost when only the links are provided. As Wikipedia is a volunteer project, edit requests such as yours are generally expected to have this formatting done before the request is submitted for review. |
Kindly resubmit the edit request below at your earliest convenience, taking care to ensure that it makes use of CS1. If you have any questions about this formatting please don't hesitate to ask myself or another editor. Additionally, the COI editor is invited to disclose the nature of their COI on their talk page per WP:COIDISCLOSE. Regards, Spintendo 22:53, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the heads up! I have edited the request to include properly formatted references for the relevant edits. Let me know if these requests should be resubmitted entirely, or if this is appropriate.
- I did not include references for the requests asking for additions of basic links (external links, see also, etc.) - I can if needed. Mphelan123 (talk) 13:52, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
Notes
- ^ The fault for this formatting error may have originated with the automated prompts used by the edit request template, which asks for a COI editor to "supply the URL of any references used". While the resulting omission of information would not be the fault of the requesting COI editor, it nevertheless remains their responsibility to supply the references formatted in the style used by the article.
- ^ The use of bare URLs as references is a style which is acceptable for use in Wikipedia. However, general practice dictates that the style already in use for an article be the one that is subsequently used for all future additions unless changed by editorial consensus.[4]

Guideline: It is normal practice to defer to the style used by the first major contributor or adopted by the consensus of editors already working on the page, unless a change in consensus has been achieved. If the article you are editing is already using a particular citation style, you should follow it.
