Papua New Guinea? or Indonesia?
[edit]The text of the article tries to have it both ways - or is it a type where it should have been west papua - surely papua NG and Indonesia dont have joint territory? SatuSuro 14:20, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- The article seems to be a mixup of three different island groups:
- Schouten Islands in Indonesia, which included Biak, Supiori, Numfor/Noemfoor. Apparently Yapen is not considered part of this group, but I'm not sure about this.
- Schouten Islands in Papua New Guinea, about 100 km east of Wewak. Probably the most notable member of this group is the volcanic island of Bam.[1]
- Kairiru mentioned in the article appears to be an island and not a town. It is not a member of either group - instead it belongs to Wewak Islands just offshore of Wewak.
- There is no physical connection between Indonesian and PNG Schouten Islands - they were just both named after this dutch captain Schouten. And then of course there is also Schouten Island in Australia named after him. – Sadalmelik 22:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
shouldn't this article be renamed Biak Islands?
[edit]Since the comments above this article is now clearly about the Indonesian Schouten Islands. Does anyone have any views/information on whether Schouten Islands or Biak Islands is most commonly used for this group in English? Certainly the official name appears to be Kepulauan Biak. Just a thought... Istanbuljohnm (talk) 06:29, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
