Contact details
[edit]These aren't appropriate. That a website would be linked if it existed is not because we are the Yellow Pages - it is because the official websites of subjects are usually good sources on information on them. We do not include email addresses in lieu of them. This has apparently been obvious enough for a half-dozen editors, so I'd ask that Trenwith stop restoring it. - If I thought Wikipedia was the Yellow Pages, I would list a dozen sets of contact details for regional organisers, venues, etc. However, I respect the fact that Wikipedia is not a directory service. If I was researching this topic - a competition - I would probably want to find out more and would consider entering it. The only obvious source of information I can find or know of is the email address for the organisers (please noteI haven't put in phone numbers, cellphone, postal address, etc). If anything else existed (website, Facebook forum, whatever), I'd happily use that instead. imho the people who insist on removing the email address in this case are being a bit pedantic. Trenwith (talk) 19:30, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- This is not a resource site - we're not here for people who perhaps wish to enter competitions. It's not pedantic to try to ensure that the article properly represents itself as a descriptive (and not unduly rooted in the present) account of the subject and not a guide to participating in it. Furthermore, email addresses attract spam - especially when posted on one of the top ten domains on the Internet. Given that it's been removed on four separate occasions thus far, it would appear that the rest of the community agrees with this. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 19:53, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
Mainly FAO: Trenwith
[edit]I have made a web site for Schools' Challenge. I run/have helped build many quiz web sites including 123Quiz.net, The Quiz League of London and several others.
I have put some pages online at: 123quiz.net/w/SC based on the information at the Wikipedia page in part so that page wouldn't need to have the contact details on it. If you can provide any extra information I will gladly add it and/or, I can give you an account so you can add the information yourself.

- Will - a perfect solution to the problem! Good work. You should contact Sue Sims if you want further info (her email address is well debated!) Trenwith (talk) 08:13, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. I have e-mailed a similar message. Jw6aa (talk) 10:25, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
content copied from linked site
[edit]it seems much of the content on this page is simply copied from the website linked to. its also not easily understandable if you dont know how schooling in the UK works.
also, is the whole thing notable? it only seems to be linked to from the University Challenge page, & even the website linked to is very bare. r-c-h-w (talk) 23:36, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Point of correction - the site copies this page! Like a lot of inter-schools events in the UK, it is administered on an ad-hoc basis by teachers, in their own time. Hence many such activities are under-promoted (compare with the ful-time staff running the US equivalents) Trenwith (talk) 09:14, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
I'm quite sure that Aylesbury Grammar School won the Junior Schools Challenge competition in the 1984/5 academic year. Who are these Eagle House people?
Problems with updating
[edit]As the National Organiser, I'm trying to edit the Wikipedia entry for Schools Challenge, updating the list of winners with the Junior Schools Challenge National Finals results held last Sunday (25th June 2017). I've done this for the last two or three years with no problems. This time, however, the 'References' box, instead of coming at the end as a separate list, has been read into the table of winners, and I can't seem to get it back into its proper place.
Sorry to be a pain, but I'd be very grateful if someone could re-edit!
PS I note on the page above that someone has said that Aylesbury Grammar School won in (I think) 1984-5, rather than Eagle House. This is very possible: my husband and I didn't take over the National Organisation till 1985-6, and we don't have all the relevant information for the previous years of the competition. If you're certain about this result, please do edit it.
