[edit]While the information here seems relatively accurate, the lack of references is disturbing.

My fault. The information is not "relatively" accurate. It is accurate, and everything written here is adapted from primary sources (i.e scientific articles). I'll include references soon.... 12:00, 14 June 2007 (UTC)waisberg

Morphology section
[edit]I hope I kept the sense in trying to correct the English. I couldn't understand the sentence that begins "In only one sex the digestive tube begins at the anterior extremity of the worm...". Which sex? --Milkbreath (talk) 22:45, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Addition of Physiology Section
[edit]Hello fellow S. mansoni lovers, attached is a draft for an addition of a physiology section to the page. It does not include nearly every aspect of the parasite's physiology, but I think it could be a good start for thinking about the organism. Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions regarding the addition. PencilNick (talk) 19:29, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
Hello PencilNick! Always great to see students editing articles, especially when they do a good job like you seem to have done! Awesome. My comments would be:
- Please check the headings as we should try to make them as consistent as possible across all the different helminth articles. It would actually be good if someone decided on a template and then adjusts all the different helminth articles accordingly.
- Make sure this article does NOT include information about the disease that should rather be on the disease page (I have just moved some information across). We're trying to have a clear distinction between the organism page and the disease page for each helminth.
- For the references that you used, can you also provide URLs please? Are any of them open access or are they all behind paywalls? If the latter, perhaps you could also include open access information so that it's easier for people to check out your references. EvMsmile (talk) 01:23, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you EvMsmile for your feedback, I've implemented the changes into the article and will integrate it into the S. mansoni page. I've added ISBN numbers and DOI's to sources to better identify them, and will integrate the later half of the locomotion article, which deals with drug effectiveness against the helminth, into the Schistosomiasis page under the treatement section. Unfortunately, there's a bit of a dearth of physiological information across helminth articles, and, given that Wikipedia places it on par with morphology as a branch of science, I think it would be best to hopefully start the trend of adding physiological sections to helminth articles. Moved information to the article on the disease
[edit]As for all helminth pages we try to keep it neat and tidy where we have one article about the organism and one article about the disease (that's Schistosomiasis in this case - see also the hatnote. Therefore, I have moved some information from this article to the disease article. There is actually more information that could/should be moved, like the third paragraph under "epidemiology". - You can see we've had the same discussion (and conclusion) for the other helminth pages as well, like Ascaris lumbricoided. number of prevalence cases needs to be reviewed
[edit]more details and update required number of cases in Egypt for example is much less than what is mentioned. Odayem (talk) 11:42, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
autoimmune research
[edit]I'm doing a research project on parasites and autoimmune disorders, and Schistosoma mansoni eggs appear in research to produce proteins that alleviate symptoms of type 1 diabetes. Also infection of mice with S. mansoni can reduce symptoms of colitis. [1] I'm not sure if this is notable or where in the article the information would go, but the connection between this organism and autoimmune function in mammals exists, and someone with better judgement than me should decide whether the information is worthy of belonging in the articlespace. A sentence looks off
[edit]However, they are not truly dioecious since the adults live in permanent male-female pairs, a condition called in copula, although they can be physically separated.[12]
This sentence looks weird, I think you are missing a certain word there.CycoMa (talk) 04:59, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
