[edit]Saw grass can be found in the Everglades National Park. It is in the farm-like area or in the wetland area in the Everglades Nation Park. To some, the saw grass marshes are not soft, but have a extremely hard limestone bottom. That that saw grass is one of the oldest green plants (aka Shrek)on the planet. Saw grass easily cut somebody with their leaves that is why they call it saw grass. During the wet season, the saw grasses roots would be covered with water. In the dry season the marshes are occasionally devastated by fire which can be helpful. The saw grass marsh is the emblem of the Everglades, in some ways calling to mind the African savanna. But there is no real equivalent to the saw grass marshes and the sheet flow anywhere in the world; the ecosystem is very special. Marjory Stoneman Douglas, in her famous book Everglades which was wrote in 1947. Paradise Key is surrounded by the extensive sawgrass marshes in the Everglades. The wetlands was surrounded with sawgrass and lily pads. It is kinda like a little island if you saw it. Everglades National Park holds the largest stand of sawgrass prairie in North America. The Everglades Nation park is known for their sawgrass. Saw-grass is actually a sedge, not a true grass. Sedges have triangular shaped stems where as true grasses have another shape of stems. True stems are round. Sawgrass can be a conflict because they can clog up water causing the water not to flow. Saw-grass provides cover and nesting for birds, reptiles, and amphibians. By Rayvonn.B
