Copy/Paste - Possible Copyright violation

- The source [1] does not indicate a copyright, and is a statement of facts produced by a State/Governement agency (may not be eligible for copyright). Also this information may meet Wikipedia's "Fair Use" test.

Copy/Paste & Copyright
I came here from Third Opinion, and after quickly investigating, there is a multitude of copied parts. College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences section is just a copy/paste for example. --User:Krator (t c) 22:05, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

- History is copied too, from the PDF
- Presidents copied from the PDF too, but slightly edited (sentences cut, all others untouched).

- The radio station section is from [6]
- Shannon Sharpe from [7]

Is it copyright?
Regarding the Third party review and edit/removal to Savannah State University:
The source does not indicate a copyright, and is a statement of facts produced by a State/Governement agency (may not be eligible for copyright).
Also this information may meet Wikipedia's "Fair Use" test.
Other items identified should be rewritten and given appropriate reference vice removed (You cannot copyright facts).
Also, per Wikipedia guidance (If you find a copyright infringement) all issues of copyright should be discussed on the article talk page or the copyright portions removed...not the entire article.

"Editors" of Wikipedia
Once again the "self appointed editors"/vandals of Wikipedia have struck (just like Bay Ridge Christian College). I have placed a scaled down version of the Savannah State article in the temporary space.
Seek to improve knowledge...don't destroy.

- I find this remark offending, and a blatant violation of the assume good faith policy. It simply is not a good idea to directly copy/paste from any source, unless that source is specifically licensed under the GPL, Creative Commons, or another free license. The subject of this article is of such a nature, that it is easy to write about without having to copy/paste. --User:Krator (t c) 18:44, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm glad finding remarks offending is in the eye of the beholder. While it is not a good idea to copy/paste, it is not against Wikipedia policy, just like deleting entire articles are not against the policy. But I guess we only follow the policies we want to on Wikipedia. As I stated earlier in this discussion, if information is in violation we should seek to change or correct that portion, not delete the entire article.

- Actually, Wikipedia content guidelines specifically recommend against cutting and pasting from primary sources - see Wikipedia:Don't include copies of primary sources; however, I do agree that the article should not be removed, merely marked as having been copied and pasted on the article page with a tag such as {{copypaste}} so that it can be addressed. Also, edit wars are not vandalism - I think everyone involved in this discussion should read or re-read Wikipedia:Staying cool when the editing gets hot. --Roswell native 02:45, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
The question is are we trying to fix the problems or just deleting the article. When this began I asked for a simple discussion about what parts needed to be fixed and was ignored. I have several friends who still work at the university and I'm sure they would have been happy to provide updated information, but at this point it seems more important for people to talk about why its wrong instead of making it right.
This is the second article I've seen deleted from Wikipedia...not by administrators, but by other users.

- I deleted and restored the article to a much earlier version. It's better to start again from the beginning without all the copyright infringements. Of which there was a multitude of. Garion96 (talk) 12:29, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Athletic infobox
I removed the athletic infobox because a majority of the information is found in the Template:Infobox University at the type of the page. The information is also listed on Savannah State Tigers. Additional, per Wikipedia:NONFREE#Policy_2 "minimal usage" and "minimal extent of use" should be followed for fairuse images. I see no need for the University logo to be duplicated two times on the same page. --Jerm (Talk/ Contrib) 21:01, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

- It does not need to be in the infobox! It is already in the article and on the Savannah State Tigers article. The main University infobox should take priority when that is what this article is about. -- Jerm (Talk/ Contrib) 22:44, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- I do not agree. The user shouldn't have to be linked to a seperate article to find this sort of information, especially when the infobox template was created for this purpose. - Users aren't linked to a second article to find that basic information... it was in the university infobox and/or in the brief athletic section. I did a little looking and only 2 articles (including this one) are main articles[8]. What I am saying here is why have two infoboxes when one does the trick, it makes thinks cluttered. If the stadium name or athletic directors name is in such need to be in an infobox for "quick access" and a user cannot make their way to the athletics article use the free_label, free and sports fields in the university infobox. --Jerm (Talk/ Contrib) 03:11, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- The intent of {{Infobox college athletics}} was to provide summary information for athletics articles such as Savannah State Tigers and not to place in university main articles which have separate athletics articles. The redundancy should make that evident. The athletics articles grew out of the need to address the significant emphasis placed on athletics articles by predominantly American institutions so that the main university article can cover consistent information regardless of country and US university articles not by overwhelmed by sports info. RE: Peer Review
- Mission statement should be merged into the academics description
- Notable campus events includes trivia, which are discouraged in articles.
- Academic profile section should be renamed to Academics and Demographics per WP:UNI's article guidelines.
- Research Centers section should be merged into the summary of buildings in the Campus section.
- The Schools and Colleges section should be integrated with the Areas of Study section. Separately, it's kind of awkward and it looks as if you're restating the same material.
- Other academic programs section is awkwardly placed. It should probably integrate it with the academic programs description.
- The Want more information? infobox on the Notable faculty and staff section seems out of place. The Want more information title almost sounded as if the article's advertising SSU, but it's not. My suggestion would be to place the links to the "See Also" section.
- Athletics section should be embedded in the Student Life section.
- School Colors and School Mascot section should be deleted since the material is already covered in the Infobox University for SSU.
- The same deal with the Athletics' "want more info" box, please move the links into "See Also"
- Organization section should be placed as the first sentence of the Athletics section prior to the NCAA intro. Trivial information regarding the Athletic Director is unremarkable, therefore should be removed. This is an encyclopedia article, not a roster. Readers who require names will be better served by clicking to the university's athletics dept link on the External Links section.
- Athletic Facilities should be mentioned in the Campus section
- Athletics infobox is completely unnecessary and should be only placed in the athletics article.
- Re: SSU in the news
- Winless BBall Season should be integrated into the Athletics section
- The court case should be integrated into the History section.
- Convention naming methods suggests that "Suggested Reading" be renamed to "Further Reading"
- Footnotes should be renamed to "References"

GA failed
This article needs a fair bit more work imho
The linking of dates and years in the article needs to be consistent. They need to be either all linked or none linked– DoneWhen discussing year ranges and scoring ranges such as in the sports section, please use 1991–2006 and 28–0 not 1991-2006 or 28-0– DoneThe list of alumni etc needs to be forked to a subarticle because it would simply overwhelm the article, and its existence would make the article complete, per the disclaimer. Also its presence and the explanations about the notablity of the people will also give undue weight to the entry, since most of the them became famous for things not particularly derived from their university education at SSU– Done- Many of the sections are very short and would need to be expanded or merged.
The footnotes should be directly after the punctuation mark and not with apce in between or before the punctuation mark.– DoneThe lead needs to be expanded to better reflect the article and to summarise it more thoroughly and representatively.– DoneThere is something of a recentist bent in the history with parts about the court case and the two mentions of TV shows making an appearance at the university. In the scheme of things, the TV show is unlikely to be notable since it didn't permamently affect the course of the university's history and was merely a sideshow.– Done- The history and the academic information on the university in general seems a bit sparse, since the school is neither new nor small. Can more details be added?
- There should be a section about the governance of the unviersity, how the board works, where it gets funding and commerical partnerships from and the like.
The first half of the acdemic info section should be prosified– Done- The article in general probably needs a bit more content
