Should we consider The Long War Journal a WP:RS?

[edit]

Is it an RS or a NN blog site? A recent article in it claimed to have tentatively identified additional former Guantanamo captives on the most recent wanted list.

"The Long War Journal has identified 8 men on the most-wanted list who have the same name as Saudis who were repatriated from Guantánamo. This matching process is not perfect, as some of the men listed have common Muslim and tribal names. Translations of the men's names are not consistent either, as there are multiple ways to translate their Arabic names into English."

It tentatively identified three former captives:

ISN 114 Yousuf Mohammed Mubarak Al Jubairi Al Shahri
ISN 185 Turki Mashouy Zayed Assiri
ISN 187 Murtada Ali Saeed Mukram,

So, what are these guys?

[edit]

A Saudi press release named Mohammed Abdel-Rahman al-Rashed and Sultan Radi al-Utaibi as two men from the list killed in a shootout in Yemen. But what name is that on the list? So, what are these guys? Geo Swan (talk) 01:30, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

it is counterpolicy to remove redlinks to topics that could plausibly be standalone articles.

Someone has removed some redlinks to topics that could plausibly be standalone articles. I restored them. Geo Swan (talk) 01:00, 17 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Geo Swan, I think these people would not have their own articles. Maybe I am wrong. But they seem to be notable just because of one event.--SharʿabSalam▼ (talk) 11:11, 17 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • First, BLP1E only applies to some of these individuals. Second, if you re-read BLP1E, it is equivocal. It doesn't say being a BLP1E is not an absolute bar to notability. It is conditional, a judgement call.
Buzz Aldrin - is he a BLP1E? Wiseguys re-used the arguments those who cite BLP1E, on Aldrin. (1) He was only known for landing on the moon; (2) his books, film and television appearances only happened because of the one event - landing on the moon. BLP1E explicitly says an individual can measure up to our notability criteria if their role in an event is central, well documented etc.
I suggest that the time for you to raise a BLP1E concern would be if (1) someone turned the redlink into an article; and (2) after a good look at that article you concluded the available references you found in your own web search (in compliance with WP:BEFORE) that article fell short of our inclusion criteria.
