Could Saud Memon have been held in Guantanamo?
[edit]The final paragraph of the article says:
- According to Asra Q. Nomani, a longtime colleague of Daniel Pearl's, Pakistani papers reported that Saud Memon had been held in the United States Guantanamo Bay detention camps, in Cuba.[29] However, Saud Memon's name was not on the final official lists of Guantanamo captives, released on 15 May 2006.[30]
Well, we now know the CIA operated multiple camps at Guantanamo, when they thought it could be a "law-free zone", including Camp Strawberry Fields and Camp Penny Lane. That official list of all captives turned out to be a big lie. It only listed the captives in DoD custody. The CIA cleared all its captives from Guantanamo a few months prior to the SCOTUS ruling in Rasul v. Bush. We don't definitively know Memon wasn't held at Guantanamo prior to that.
The simplest solution would be to simply strike the second sentence. Geo Swan (talk) 17:42, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
Captured by the FBI?
[edit]South African sources assert Memon was captured by the FBI. This is unlikely. It is the CIA who maintained the so-called "snatch teams". The FBI only has a domestic mandate. It would not have a mandate to operate in South Africa, without special permission. And that special permission would almost certainly have left a paper trail. Could the CIA have claimed the officials who captured Memon were FBI agent? Yes, they are shameless as to the false 55t66t5ttcovers they give their agents and officials.
