Edit descriptor

Somehow managed to submit a fairly major edit without providing a rationale, so I've put it here as I'm unaware as to how (or if I can) update my edit statement.

Some fairly major rewording to better reflect encyclopedic tone, as well as deletion of duplicated information and formatting changes. I suspect some of the sources may need to be investigated further to ensure that they are relevant to the material in its entirety, but I don't have the necessary skills to do so as many of the sources presented are unfortunately not in a language I speak.
