passages like this: "Such are the main peculiarities of Sassanid palace architecture. The general effect of the great halls is grand, though scarcely beautiful; and, in the best specimens, the entire palace has an air of simple severity which is striking and dignified. The internal arrangements do not appear to be very convenient. Too much is sacrificed to regularity; and the opening of each room into its neighbor must, one would think, have been unsatisfactory. Still, the edifices are regarded as "indicating considerable originality and power," though they "point to a state of society when attention to security hardly allowed the architect the free exercise of the more delicate ornaments of his art"." read more like a critical review than an encyclopedia article. I also wonder about copyright violations. --Rajah 04:40, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep. The article is to a great extent copied from Volume 7 of Rawlinson's "The Seven Great Monarchies". However,... the work is copyright 1902, and Rawlinson died the same year, so I suppose the author wasn't violating any copyrights with his copy-'n-paste. -- Fullstop 09:41, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification

[edit]

Folks,

What is referred to as "Sassanid architecture" is actually an extension of the "Parthian style" architecture. In other words, the article seems to confuse Sassanid era architecture with Sassanid architecture (which in reality is nothing but "Parthian architecture"). Almost every editor on WP seems to be unaware of the distinction.--Zereshk 08:33, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
