The PTI obituary distributed at Sardar Malik's death and reprinted by several newspapers (eg) said that Malik was the "recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke award". However this is unlikely because:
- he is not listed on the awards official website (archived copy);
- no contemporary news reports could be found saying that he had been conferred the award that year
- The Hindu obit, which seems to be independently written or at least fact-checked, does not mention the award
- his son Anu Malik in an interview portrays Sardar Malik as a struggling artist, and does not mention the award
For those reasons, we should not include mention of the award in the article unless we find indisputable evidence that he had actually received it. Abecedare (talk) 17:58, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
