current status of athletics ban

[edit]

Can anyone confirm if she is currently banned from competition and if so, if the ban is permanent? The current wording of the article seems to imply that it is under dispute, and I would like to change the article to clarify the current status and possibilities of competing in the future. @Rockstone35: We all very well know that all the sources are talking about anatomical inspection and hormone level testing, instead of determining genders of sportspeople.

Gender and biological sex are completely different things, and that's why sex verification in sports is called as such. It is often incorrectly called "gender verification in sports".

At the end of the day, it is quite unreasonable, and discriminatory to use these two terms synonymously when they are very different things.

It is also absurd that Wikipedia's own policies do not differentiate between gender and biological sex.

Why do we have an article about it, with many reliable sources proving that they are different things?

@CrafterNova I'd suggest you persue the matter at an appropriate place. Editing this talk page and article is not going to change flaws you believe are in Wikipedia policies. If, as you say, they're different things and sources prove this, then you should start collecting those sources.
Unfortunately, if reliable sources use the terms incorrectly, in your opinion, it's not Wikipedia's, or Wikipedia's editors, responsabilty to correct them.
Nor can we decide that we know what the sources really mean, when it's not what the sources actually say.
If the sources can be shown to be unreliable, then the solution is to either find better sources, or removed the offending content until it can be reliably sourced.

@Escape Orbit: I have tried many times. I had created a proposal at Village pump (policy) but it was rejected, with the closing editor saying "this idea is not developed enough for a proposed policy change yet. It may be helpful to talk about your idea at the Wikipedia:Village pump (idea lab)."
I will start with proposing for changes to this article at the idea lab at Wikipedia:Village pump (idea lab)#Sex and gender distinction in policies, articles and rest of the namespaces.
However, it is really difficult to do it alone. It is better to do teamwork, and if gender and biological sex were more often seen as different things, discrimination would decrease, and it would a lot better for everyone in general. — CrafterNova [ TALK ] [ CONT ] 15:30, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@CrafterNova I feel this your difficulty. Wikipedia's job, as an encyclopaedia, is primarily to accurately reflect the cuture and society it documents, through collating knowledge from reliable sources. Its purpose is not to improve it, even if it can be agreed what needs improving. Escape Orbit (Talk) 19:00, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
