Naming

[edit]

Please leave this page at Santa Rosa Island, California not (California). It's a location as well as a disambig, it matches Santa Catalina's naming, and all of the links in go to the former not the latter. Thanks. jengod 00:52, July 29, 2005 (UTC)

Corrections to article

The former owners, Vail and Vickers Cattle Company (V&V), did not sell the island to the government. Santa Rosa Island was made into a National Park by an act of Congress (without the consent of V&V). The owners received compensation from the government. corflog —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.203.198.123 (talk) 00:23, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to above: In testimony made by a Vail & Vickers Company representative to a Senate subcommittee in 2007, Mr. Timothy Vail, fourth generation manager in the company, stated "Santa Rosa Island was acquired by the National Park Service in 1986 against the desire of V&V, who wished to continue their ranching operations. Nonetheless, with few options available to V&V and under threat of condemnation, they agreed to sell the island to the federal government for inclusion in Channel Islands National Park." It appears they did indeed sell the island.SeattleRetro (talk) 02:43, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Native American, not Indian

[edit]

We should refer the original inhabitants as Native American, not Indian. 212.129.86.178 (talk) 23:42, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
