The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Sanmao (writer)/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

Sanmao's late husband, Jose, indeed died while diving. He was a professional diver and unfortunately died while she was on a short vacation with her parents, who had traveled to Spain to visit Sanmao and her husband.

Sanmao was never the same after Jose passed away. It was very clear in her books. She mourned him continuously, though it may not be apparent to others. In some of the letters she wrote to my mother (they were close friends), she expressed how much she missed Jose. I won't go further into what she wrote. But for people to speculate that Jose did not die is quite disrespectful.

That's all I wanted to express here so that people can get the facts right.
