Sanjaagiin Bayar or Sanjiin Bayar
[edit]Is "Sanjiin" absolutely correct? Because I was watching the news a few days ago and they said "Sanjaagiin Bayar". --ChinneebMy talk 06:33, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ünen uses Sanjaagiin Bayar, but Gantuya was of the opinion that Sanjiin is more correct. Yaan (talk) 14:01, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- It's true that an official at the MPRP congress pronounced it as "Sanjaagiin". The same phenomenon happened at the State Ih Hural. This ignorance and carelessness of the politicians unable even to correctly say the name of their own party leader and government leader is really embarrassing. Shame to "newspaper" Unen. Gantuya eng (talk) 14:46, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- It's "Санжийн" in Mongolian Wikipedia Gantuya eng (talk) 14:59, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- There is no entry for him on the Mongolian Wikipedia!? --KleanUpKatie (talk) 21:43, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- He is mentioned in the entries on Mongol Uls and Mongol ulsyn yerönkhii said, though. Yaan (talk) 23:09, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- If anyone is a friend of S. Bayar, please check his passport. :) Gantuya eng (talk) 04:28, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- No Sanjiin Bayar is direct spelling from Mongolian language. So it does not matter in English. In english absolute correct version is etiher Bayar Sanj or Bayar of Sanj. "iin - ийн" or "giin - гийн" does not make any sense. Remember its a English Wikipedia, not Mongolian Wikipedia. Gologmine (talk) 11:57, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
There is now mn:Санжийн Баяр, which has already been moved back and forth more than once... Now I was informed by someone who apparently has access to reliable sources that it is indeed "Sanjaagiin". The article hasn't been moved back to that version yet, though. --Latebird (talk) 05:03, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Could we all assume that the state TV channel, MNB is correct? They pronounced the name Sanjaagiin. --ChinneebMy talk 10:27, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Will it be too tough to say that each sentence of them contains (a) mistake(s)? Gantuya eng (talk) 11:24, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- It's easier to slip into "Sanjaagiin" from "Sanjiin", because "Sanjiin" is a rare, and therefore less usual, patronymic. That's why I suspect "Sanjaagiin" is a mistake. Today even I started doubting whether a name "Sanj" exists. I've checked up in a dictionary--it does exist. It's listed just in front of "Sanjaa". Gantuya eng (talk) 11:34, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- He's listed just as Sanjaa Bayar on the MPRP website: [1] --Alfredie (talk) 17:07, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sanjaa is the nominative case, but at the moment we are using genitive case for mongolian patronymics on WP. the discussion, as I understand it, is about what is the correct genitive case of Sanjaa: Sanjiin or Sanjaagiin. Yaan (talk) 17:31, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- More accurately, the question is whether his father's name was "Sanj" (-> Sanjiin) or "Sanjaa" (-> Sanjaagiin), or if one is possibly just an equivalent variation of the other. --Latebird (talk) 18:00, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- I think MPRP website is good source, but we also see Mongolian Government web site [2]. Unfortunately this site is outdated nowadays. Ganbat (talk) 03:41, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

- The issue is whether the father's name is "Sanj" or "Sanjaa".
- I see. Yaan (talk) 15:17, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- I saw the MPRP website. I couldn't find any list of its leaders, but the news on its homepage persists using "Sanjaagiin".
- I am confused why you've referred to http://www.open-government.mn/more/namtar.php -- it doesnt list the current PM. Gantuya eng (talk) 09:26, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- The issue is whether the father's name is "Sanj" or "Sanjaa".
- Now that site http://www.open-government.mn/more/namtar.php has been updated. It spells it as "Sanjaagiin". Perhaps we'll have to follow that. Gantuya eng (talk) 09:15, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
To add to the confusion: "Sanjaa" is very often informally used in place of "Sanj", but not the other way. Temur (talk) 21:48, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
family situation
[edit]I removed the section for now because the impression it currently gives is rather misleading (my fault, actually). At some point after adding the section, I also heard that Hulan was his second wife, that he had several kids with his first wife, and that his marriage with Hulan is (was?) not a very happy one. I agree in principle with latebird's removal of the recent edits, though a better solution would be to find some sources for Monsoon12's edits. Yaan (talk) 11:45, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- We also have to be very careful to protect the privacy of family members that are not themselfes public figures. Khulan is one of the very few exceptions where the name of a spouse may be relevant. But in most cases, the only thing we should say is whether there is a family or not, but no further details about them. --Latebird (talk) 12:50, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- OK. But First Ladys would be relevant too, right? Yaan (talk) 14:21, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- By name only if she has become a public figures on her own merits. Just being "the wife of x" should not be enough to publish someone's name, if all she does is stand around decoratively at certain events. --Latebird (talk) 19:16, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
