Etymology

[edit]

This document should tell who coined Sandbox in software industry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ra windows (talkcontribs) 6 February 2009

Yes, it could do with something about the etymology, to explain the connection with sand. Nurg (talk) 02:41, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox not isolating. Sandbox is isolated. Not only production environment but also testing environment. To my mind - Sandbox is software environment that is isolated from other software environment.

agreed. It seems a very strange simile to use considering how much sand normally escapes a sandbox/pit Talltim (talk) 16:55, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(software development) vs (computer security)

[edit]

the (software development) and (computer security) versions of Sandbox are logically separated. however, in the context of patch/configuration management (which I put in this article, rather than the computer security article), as well as potentially in other engineering applications (e.g, systems design), (software development) might be a limiting disambiguator - it might be worth changing this article's parenthetical to (computer) to clarify a larger scope.
