[edit]The intro for this article is extremely unclear and contains grammatical errors. I would fix it but i know nothing about this topic, and the intro alone is so indecipherable that I don't know how to both fix it and keep it factually accurate. The AFS testing regimen was developed first. The artilce should refer to the earlier testing techniques (which are still valid and used) as a primary reference since the Indian techniques came later. The article need a lot of work. For starters, the article is titles about a sand rammer but then talks about various sand tests. I suggest the article would be best to contain information firstly and only about the machinery, its development, usage and maintenance. Then other articles could e developed for Wikipedia as topics of their own, such as green sand compression test, or permeability test, etc which link to this article. It would also be good to have an article simply about making the 2" x 2" test coupon itself. Simply in ramming the test coupon and leaving it in the tube allows the user to make at least two test evaluations without stripping from the tube (for example). - I agree with you. Well for 50x50 specimen , i have removed brackets on the afs std. 50x 50 is widely used and just for reference sake its indian std referred to. we can also site din std for it, or can put 1"x1" first and 50x50 later, doesnt matter. well, in current state of the article we can definitely add origination and stuff but i do not have info regarding same. When writing sand testing as an article the thing which was figured out was that, it needs to be a category may be in which we can have tests and test equipments. --Vertical.limit (talk) 13:50, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- 50mm = 2 inches. It's fine to put the SI unites first, my recommendation is in the list of references put the oldest one first then the others. Perhaps DIN is oldest? I think though the test was developed in the U.S. I could be incorrect I will research this. I also have a suggestion for the article title. Since there can be many types of sand rammers used to make actual molds (e.g. the wooden style for small squeezer work, or a pneumatic one for large work) I suggest the title of this article to be "Rammer for standard sand specimen". This would be more concise to convery what the article is about. In addtion the there could be severa separate articles for the various sand tests that are done using this equipment and a Sand specimen tube. I am glad to see this article I think a series of articles could be written regarding sand testing. It is a very important topic. Mfields1 (talk) 01:27, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- You are right, by terminology all of them are sand rammers but generically you might agree that, they are called molding machines even if hand operated or fully automatic which, are used to actually produce molds for production of parts. Yes, there is another machine which is used in leu of sand rammer to prepare std specimen which, is pneumatic sand squeezer. We will have a different article on it. Since the sand rammer is most popularely known as sand rammer in the industry if, there are any other variants by be we can list them category wise under this article. e.g http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permeability if such suggestions come in future course from users. I would like to know your opinion regarding this. My suggestion, lets proceed with the name for the time being. Well, about the reference list it comes automatically, I dont know if we can alter its course. Shall I recommend and admin may be to make Foundry sand testing a category? I shall write articles regarding all tests in further course and would seriously appreciate your help Mfields1 -- Vertical.limit (talk) 13:20, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
