Name origin
[edit]There is no historical information in the BCGNIS record so this is a speculation only - why a Spanish name is the first question; my guess is that there's a connection between the St. Joseph Mission in Williams Lake and this river, and that the Spanish usage comes from the use of that river's route by the Mexican packers in the old days; perhaps specifically Jean Caux/Cataline (though he wasn't Mexican).
