Redirecting to Disambiguation

[edit]

Does anyone think this specific title should redirect to a disambiguation page? Matt Yeager (Talk?) 07:10, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the article named "San Jose" or "San José" should redirect to a disambiguation, because two major cities in the world share this name, and it's just a fair result. Both cities have the same size and similar achievements (one is an important industrial city, the other one is a capital of a country). Besides, according to the same cite in the article "San Jose (disambiguation)": San José – or San Jose – is the Spanish for Saint Joseph. According to the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's GEOnet Names Server, it is the most common place name in the world. JorgeRodriguez (talk) 20:47, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think this should go to a dab page, it should go to the Costa Rican city. It's a national capital, for crying out loud. But if there's no consensus for that, then fine, a dab page is better than the current status, which appears to reflect some Amerocentristic teenager's thinking that the world ends at San Ysidro. 98.71.218.248 (talk) 09:55, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There are also other cities with the same name, and deserve study. MadZarkoff (talk) 17:09, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Attacking other editors' motives is frowned upon. If you think an editorial decision is wrong, please just state your case on the merits instead of attacking those who think differently than you do. As for your first point, the relevant guideline suggests that the page should redirect to the article that readers who type in "San Jose" are most likely to be looking for; the fact that one article is about a national capital does not necessarily make it the most likely to be searched for. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 15:11, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Your point on civility is well taken, and I offer my apologies. And I actually do understand that the redirect should go where the reader is most likely wanting to go; my point—which I made in unfortunately crude terms—was that it may not be obvious to the typical American just what it is that the reader is looking for. My personal suspicion is that the majority of persons using this resource (a source used the world over) are more likely looking for the national capital, not the second largest city of one of the fifty American states. But since we can't prove it, the dab page is the solution. 98.71.218.248 (talk) 09:36, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
