I appreciate 199.156.255.234 (talk  contribs) providing a more direct hyperlink to the Official Series Description, but I have two solid reasons for preferring the "indirect" link:

  1. that is the citation url recommended by the USDA-NRCS: "When referencing the online Official Soil Series Description information in publications, the following citation is recommended: <snip> URL: http://soils.usda.gov/technical/classification/osd/index.html "
  2. the www2.ftw... portion of the url in the direct link is subject to change. When NRCS changes the direct url, as I have experienced in the past, it turns all WP's direct OSD links into dead OSD links.

If anyone is truly happier with the direct link to restore it, please do: it is not a huge deal. -- Paleorthid 05:18, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
