Weasel words
[edit]What does this mean?
- According to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography,[2] the support that he gathered led to the formation of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings[1], although William Morris is mentioned elsewhere it can be seen that Morris and Huggins were in contact.
It is all a bit weasely. The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings article says it was founded by William Morris and Philip Webb, why not just say that? Morris has not been mentioned previously in the article so the reader will not know who you are talking about. Why does the Oxford Dictionary have to be in the text, it is just the reference, do we doubt what it says is true? Morris is mentioned elswhere for what? Contact between Morris and Huggins really doesn't prove that Huggins caused the formation of the society, nor does a reference to a journal that contains both their publications verify they were in contact (if that is the point being made, it is unclear, and WP:OR). What's wrong with this sentence,
- The support gathered by Huggins lead to the formation of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, a society founded by William Morris and Philip Webb.[2]
