Why dates in heading?
[edit]As there isn't a disambig issue, I don't see why his dates are included as part of the title of this page. I've tried to edit them out, but can't find the title on the Edit page. Valetude (talk) 17:14, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
- The date is included because there is an article about another Samuel Barron. As that other Samuel Barron was a U.S. Navy officer, too, we can´t use that with the name so the date is the best option. There actually is a disambiguation page for those two. As for not finding a button for editing it out; if you want to rename an article you actually have to move it. ...GELongstreet (talk) 03:00, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
Rank Question
[edit]The info box says his rank in the CSN was Captain, and shows the CSN shoulder insignia for that rank. The photograph of him, however, shows him wearing Flag Officer's rank insignia-- 4 stripes, not the 3 of a Captain. He is also referred to as a Flag Officer in the article text. In the CSN, Flag Officer was an actual rank above Captain. If that is the rank he in fact held, that should be reflected in the box info with a 4-star passant image and Flag Officer as his specified rank.Venqax (talk) 18:51, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
- Following up from a similar discussion at Talk:Confederate States Navy: How do we know which insignia match which ranks? Barron seems to be referred to as a "Commodore" in many instances, whose insignia don't appear in the chart at the other article. I guess the other question is whether "flag officer" was his permanent rank or just a brevit appointment. This source just calls him "Commodore".[1] They seem to treat "flag officer" as a responsibility, but maybe not a rank. More sources would help. Mobi Ditch (talk) 22:35, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
